Kotaku Played The New Destiny Expansion At E3. (Destiny)

Here is what they thought.

Some Highlights:

Jason: Yeah, and no more Ghost! I actually asked Luke Smith if we’d ever hear from Peter Dinklage again, but alas, he wouldn’t answer. No deploying Ghost to open doors in this mission, either. But I think what people really want to hear about are the new classes: so what’d you think of the Titan’s flame hammer?

Jason: Hilarious — so when you activate the Warlock Stormcaller’s new super, you go into Saiyan mode, also popping to third-person so your character can float around zapping people with lightning bolts. The controls take some getting used to — you have to target and fire in third-person, like when you’re using a scorch cannon or hive sword —but it seems really cool.

Jason: One of the things we talked about with Smith was the Thorn bounty — the epic, multi-stage quest that results in you getting one of the best PVP weapons in the game — and how cool and rewarding it is. It sounds like he wants to do a lot more stuff like that in Taken King and beyond.

There is more, but lets get the discussion moving first.

Sounds like we've heard the last of him as the ghost. Obvious why if you ask me.

I liked in the interview that they mentioned Eris is one of the characters helping you. Glad they are going to stick with already established characters and build on their characters (even if Eris isn't my favorite). New characters are awesome, but let's also learn more about the vast number of awesome voices we've heard already.

Dinklage wanted to move on to different things, and Bungie is hiring Liam O'Brien to voice AsuraBot as his replacement?

They should just re-cast.

Probably the best part of the first 3 Star Wars movies was Han Solo, who was poking fun at everything and acting as kind of a surrogate audience member. If Zavala can be Han Solo and make jokes about Eris, I'm a happy camper.

I get the sense Zavala would be the comically serious. Ikora is the chill mom of the team. Now Cayde, I could see him snarking like its a sport.

We asked Mark Noseworthy a similar question. The full interview isn't ready for release, but here's a partial response to the question "Will the Ghost return with a voice role in the Taken King?":

The Ghost will be returning in the Taken King. There are doors that need to be opened, and cracks that need to be scanned. The Ghost will be returning and playing a role.

Man, I was not a huge fan of that crack scan part. I hope we scan new, more interesting, cracks in the new expansion. As a crack connoisseur, I'll be taking notes.

I really wish Nathan Fillian had been the ghost. His delivery would have been much better, and the jokes and quips would have been great. Also, I imagine that it would have been easier to get him to come back and record additional dialogue for each expansion.

With this 10-year plan they have with the constant little expansions, I'm surprised they loaded the game with so many "big" names. We've got 3 expansions now where your ghost doesn't say a damn thing, when he couldn't stop talking during the initial campaign.

I hope that going forward, that they can just recast the ghost. If they are worried about confusing people, have our ghost "die," and send us on a mission to rescue a ghost from Eris' team or something. It could tell us stories if it had time to explain ;)

As well known to nerd circles as he is, DInkledge is not that big a name. He's a recurring on a cable tv show and mostly indie movie actor. It's not a nock against him, but I don't think availability or salary are dangerous and I'm sure both can be negotiated ahead of time.
