Welcome to the fray!

I've yet to do a raid, though, so would anyone be willing to lead a newbie through them? I'm on Xbox One with a 31 Gunslinger and a 29 Voidwalker. Also a 24 Striker Titan that I have neglected, but he'll get there someday.
I'll make a Fireteam Builder event for it at some point, but I've a busy schedule and not much time for gaming, so I'm trying to find a spot to dedicate some time for it.

I think most everyone is up for a Vault of Glass run every now and then -- it's still a blast to play through. The trick will be getting up to speed with the mechanics of each encounter. Have someone in the group explain what's going on before each step begins; it'll make it much more enjoyable for you.

When you set up the FTB event, try to schedule it a few days ahead of time and be sure to note that you're doing a first run-through. The peeps here will take care of the rest for ya. ;-)

Also, what are the best Destiny resources out there? I'm still finding myself a bit lost on the particulars of Destiny. What are the best weapon stats and perks, for instance? What's the best way to get Strange Coins? It seems like everyone else has hundreds of the things laying around, but I'm struggling to get any. I don't have many people on my friends list that play Destiny, so I haven't played the higher levels of PoE, or raids, or ToO. I've only done one Weekly Heroic Strike, and no Nightfalls. Etc, etc.

So, the nice thing about stats and perks in Destiny is that you really can tailor them to your own play style and preferences! It's definitely worth trying new things and seeing what feels good in-game. I, for one, prefer high-stability, medium-impact Scout Rifles that increase Agility (<3 MIDA) and detest almost every Auto Rile I've used. Then I have friends who feel the exact opposite. The beauty is that we can spec ourselves out, and nothing is set in stone.

As far as Strange Coins goes, your best bet is to run the Weekly Heroic Strike on the maximum difficulty level each week, as that will net you 9 coins per week per character. Coins from any other source are random and infrequent.
