Mirror's Edge Catalyst Collector's Edition (Gaming)
by Kermit , Raleigh, NC, Thursday, July 09, 2015, 15:29 (3428 days ago)
Details here.
Haven't bought a statue since Reach (worth it for Halsey's Journal, if not the statue), but I'm tempted by this one. I adore Mirror's Edge. Don't give crap about tattoos, but love the steelcase.
Has anyone heard if there is any multiplayer modes? I'm debating which platform. The PS4 might be tad sharper graphically, but the Xbox has basically unlimited space, which is making me lean that way for non-exclusive games. If interest here was mainly on the PS side (and there is multiplayer), I might go that route.

I've only seen the trailer for this game but it seemed very interesting. But I don't know if it seems 60 bucks interesting :-)
Much less $200

It would be a guilty pleasure to get the collector's edition for sure, but DICE is making it, and the first one made by them is one of my favorite games.

I loved the first Mirror's Edge as well. I think I bought it for $15 after it had been out a couple months and was amazed that it didn't get more press for being so awesome. Really liked the style of it and the action was so much fun.
Did you see this trailer for SUPERHOT from e3? I haven't played Mirror's Edge in a couple years, but this reminded me a lot of it.
Oh no!

I finally watched a Catalyst trailer and was sad to see that it's a completely different art style than the first game! Now it looks like any modern fps game, but with parqour. I guess I'll wait for it to hit $15 again.

The actual gameplay didn't strike me as all that different, only higher resolution. Of course the cutscenes don't look to be anime, if that's what you mean. I'm pretty psyched.

Yeah, I've been trying to find more videos now. There's some sort of visor that changes the way things look and highlights the things you can do parqour moves on. I think that's gonna be what I'm looking for.

Yes! The original is my favorite xbox game! I'd love if all FPS incorporated such fluid movement. Don't take movement for granted, make running fun! Collector's edition looks awesome.

Well considering that the first one was so amazing and one of if not the only 3D platforming game to actually work on all levels, I'd pay 200 just for the base game with no extras!

Did you ever play the original? I'm not much for grandiose statements, but I feel like when I'm very old, Mirror's Edge will stand out in my memory as one of the most finely crafted gaming experiences I've had. If this one is even half as good as the first, it's worth $60.
I don't know about $200, though. I like Mirror's Edge (a lot), but I can still play the game for $60 so I doubt I'll bother. I'm not so well-off that I can plunk down 200 bucks for a statue.
Kermit: I've devoured every detail they've released so far, and I have heard no mention of multiplayer whatsoever. They haven't brought it up at all as far as I can tell, not even to deny it. So I'd say it's 100% unknown at this point.

Sometimes I'm really happy when a game doesn't have multiplayer. I mean, I love that a game is crafted just for single player experience

Yep. All too often what should be single player games get crappy multiplayer tacked on and it's horrible. /me glares at Tomb Raider. /me yells: "How about you give us collections of neat challenging tomb puzzles instead of new mulitplayer maps and avatars nobody will be using half a year from now?!"

I don't want multiplayer really, and I don't want it for its own sake. The first game was so good, though, that I'd be curious about it if the game had it.

I like Mirror's Edge a lot, but sheesh sometimes "finely crafted" was about as far from the truth as possible. Mostly when I was getting hit in the face with a butt of a rifle because I didn't hit that psudo-quicktime event exactly right. I don't think I ever managed to do the wall run --> kick attack either. :(

I similarly can't be as elusive as the rest of the thread, even though I liked it. My least favorite parts were the gunplay bits, which I am told are gone in the new version?

Yep, guns are gone. I agree that that was one part of the original that seemed undercooked. Never saw it as the main course or really necessary, though, so it didn't matter to me.

Only time I would seriously use a gun was to use a pistol to shoot open doors when doing time trial.

Yeah, it's the steelbox mainly, but ... if I'm going have a statue of a video game character, Faith is one of my favorites.
I hope there's a demo or something...

Liked the art direction of the first one a lot but the game gave me a really bad case of motion sickness. Could only play it in 20 minute intervals. It was a gauntlet to finish the game. :/

I can understand the concern. It's a very visceral game. Always wanted to try it with a VR headset, but a part of me is afraid to.

I'm surprised how many of us loved the first one
by DreadPirateWes, Saturday, July 11, 2015, 14:50 (3426 days ago) @ Kermit
I remembered that it didn't sell well at first -- http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/112523/In_Depth_Inside_Mirrors_Edge_Dead_Space_Sales_Weakness.php
So I always thought of ME as a game I liked that not too many people knew/cared about.
Reading more, it seems sales did top 2 million. I'm thinking a lot of those were off the bargain rack. It's interesting that developer shelved it to concentrate resources on Battlefield 3. I am very curious to see how it will do this time around.

I think it's been one of those where the sales were marginally acceptable, but fans of the game were pretty rabid. The latter is a measure of success, too. So glad it's coming back.
I picked it up in a Humble Bundle

I feel so bad for not supporting it while the publishers were paying attention to the sales...
