My last two runs against Skolas have netted me exactly zero drops. No ciphers, MK II weapons, shaders or ships. The small chests only gave blues and the usual cores and etheric light, and the big chest just gave out worthless purple queen gear. Is that unusual?

I’ve never received anything from the actual Skolas kill (although apparently things can drop then, like void/arc/solar primaries).

The side chests are pretty inconsistent -- sometimes it seems like I get a decent haul and sometimes it’s just a couple of Motes. Usually I get blues like you did (and the Etheric Light). The big chest is where the real payday is, since it can drop Exotics, but it can be a poor payout, too. I have yet to find a Queen’s weapon that I really like, but I wonder if their value is going to become more apparent later on (like Vision of Confluence against the Wizards in Crota’s End).

For the Elder Cipher, I think you need to have an open Bounty space, since it doesn’t go to the Postmaster. I also didn’t see my Elder Cipher until a few times through the 35 PoE.

TL;DR: Yeah, sounds like you got a crappy roll, but it’s not unprecedented. :)

I think they've fixed that. I know Zero didn't get his from last night's run until he made it back to the Reef. Not sure if it went to the postmaster or was just available from Variks, though.

They can. It's rare though. I've only ever gotten the Pulse Rifle in, what else, VOID.

I've gotten 3 weapons and 3 elder ciphers from 10-15 skolas kills. Note that almost all of that came after I killed him 5-10 times. Maybe your odds go up every time you complete it? Maybe not though, I know many people with similar kill totals that got elder ciphers way before me.

If they do, I am extremely lucky. Beat Skolas 4 times, 3 out of 4 times I got the elder cipher and the 4th time I got the solar scout rifle.

I got a cipher from the level 34 PoE this week. I'm hoping to get another from Skolas this coming Tuesday. If so I'll finally have the two good exotics from HoW.
