Flight of the Necrochasm (Destiny)
During our Crota hard mode raid earlier this week, a few of us decided to make things interesting. Instead of the usual flock of Fatebringers, 3 of us threw caution into the wind and equipped our Necrochasms. It made our run through the Abyss sloppy, frantic, and hilarious.
The punch line? The 3 of us using the Necrochasm were the only 3 to make it through alive :D
The thing is, I do believe this is one of the few sections of the game where the Necrochasm can be useful... I just think you need a fireteam full of them. 6 guardians using the Necro at the same time can put out a formidable stream of firepower. Thrall are one of the few enemies in the game weak enough to be vulnerable to such a low-impact weapon, and with 6 of them in play you just might get enough explosive headshots to make a difference.
One of these days I'd love to run the raid on Normal with a full fireteam using Necrochasms as their only primary weapons, just for the giggles.

Zero and I wistfully talk about this as a kind of pipe dream. I'd love to do it. So I made an event.
I think for fun, we should go ONLY nechrochasm, melees and grenades unless we wipe, then maybe move on to all weapons with that as a primary.
Should be a lot of fun! Now to take part, you just need to buy an Xbox One, level up a guy to 32 or something, finish hard mode crota with a crux, grind to get husk of the pit, level it up, and get a Nechrochasm by tomorrow night.

lol
I've got an Xbox One, and a copy of Destiny installed on it... but my Guardian is somewhere down around level 4. It's gonna be a long night ;p

Dude! Level that dude up. I'll do it with you if you want.
I need an excuse to go get 3000 more kills with a sidearm.
ERM but
He's guardian is lvl 4, you need level 20 for a sidearm.
Silly.

How long would you think a untouched Husk of the Pit would take to upgrade fully? I have no intentions of trying to do it before tomorrow night but just curious. Bounties and telemetries don't apply to the HotP, correct?

Flight of the Necrochasm
Count me in.
Also it takes about an hour and a half in the rocket yards to level a husk.

The only way to gauge how long that would take is if you have the weapon and the Crux already, because both of those require RNG.
Bounties and telemetries don't apply to the HotP, correct?
They do when upgrading the last version of the weapon. Not when you have to kill Hive to upgrade it.

lol
I've totally got you beat, I think my xbox one character is like, level 6...

It's much easier to do the first mission where you meet the hive (forget the name). It's the "You've woken the hive!" section. Just kill all of the little guys, die. Rinse and repeat. I think I leveled it up in like 30-40 minutes

I don't even have to close my eyes to hear that in his voice

I've got all the pieces, the Husk, Embalming Orb and Crux. I just don't have the time or desire to upgrade it. Once it becomes Eidolon Ally can you immediately upgrade it with the Crux?

Yeah, I'll be 30 levels higher.

Nope. You need to level it up.
You could do it blasting through bounties on two characters, but it's a hell of a grind.

lol

To both of you (and anyone else from the PS4 side with a low-level character on Xbox):
I have been playing on Xbox a lot more lately and it has been very enjoyable getting to play with the other half of our community. Korny has been spending the large majority of his time over the past couple weeks on Xbone as well. Sure, most of you aren't as crazy as him and aren't going to be able to level up a character as fast as he did (I'm pretty sure he went from 1 to 34 in just under a full week!), but the game is just as fun on Xbox and there are some people that are really cool and fun to play with (even though they haven't realized that PS4 is superior). Heck, I've got a level 9 Warlock that I want to focus on leveling up, so I'm more than happy to help you get through those story missions at the higher difficulties.
Don't worry, I still love the Dualshock 4 more, and I'll be jumping in the new raid with you guys on PS4 on (or around) September 15 - but in the meantime, let's all hang out on Xbone more! Okay?

We still love you Speedracer, even if you are blinded by PS4 exclusives :)
Come on by anytime!

Yeah, I should fully level at least 1 of my xbox characters.

I keep meaning to, but every time I think about the climb up to level 30 or so, I just get exhausted and go back to PS4. I do want to play with a bunch of the Xboners (;p), and I know I could get through it in a few weeks if I just buckled down on it, but so much of the fun I have with Destiny comes from playing with all the toys I've collected on the PS4. I have a tough time going back :-/

I think we all know it's superior.
I mean, the 360 is the best console held back by dumpy hardware, followed by the PS4, the Bone, and the PS3. But many of us Xboners stayed in the ecosystem from Halo. That's where my friends were and generally are. And, while Halo 4 wasn't my cup of tea, I am going to give future Halo games a try. 343 is good people. And I mean that. They are good people, and they have a lot of talent and vision.
And, while I'd like to support our Bungie.org friend over at Naughty Dog, too, I just don't have the dough.

I totally get that. I am really glad that I went mainly PS4 for this generation and for the friends I've made there. At the same time, I've realized even more over the last month or so that some of my favorite people to play with are still in the Xbox ecosystem. I'm really glad that I've been fortunate enough to keep one foot over there.
And, while I'd like to support our Bungie.org friend over at Naughty Dog, too, I just don't have the dough.
Wait... Who is our Bungie.org friend at Naughty Dog?!??
Flight of the Necrochasm
I have an xbone, just cant find the strength to spend the money. Playing wouldnt be so bad, since I enjoy playing xbox and would probably be on it more if it had been my first system. Still though. If they had done a cross platform account that would have been awesome.

I think we all know it's superior.
Wait... Who is our Bungie.org friend at Naughty Dog?!??
Whoever they are, I could kiss them for helping make "The Last of Us". Just watched the trailer again yesterday and got goosebumps.

+1
Sadly, I think that is what it would take for me to invest serious time into Destiny on the Xbox One. And I don't see Sony or Microsoft letting that happen any time soon.

Max Dyckhoff! Thank him on the twitters!

How could joint accounts hurt?
It seems like for a game like Destiny that joint accounts would be good for both consoles. Because the biggest problem with having two consoles is the grind it takes have more characters. And the only thing they will lose is play time on their console.

lol
Hey, if you want to buy me an xbone I'd be all over that. My ps4 is used 90% of the time for destiny... I'd have a hard time justifying an xbone where most likely 100% of it's limited time would be destiny also. ;)

Bungie has hinted at the fact that it would have been simple for them to implement (don't know if that is still the case), but it is likely that Sony and Microsoft both hope to keep people locked in to their respective platforms :-/

Exclusives would be tied to characters, so they'd lose that

FTFY. I'm pretty confident that they could work around the technical problem of restricting exclusives to a platform.

Xbone
I purchased my XBone for 2 reasons:
1- Master Chief Collection
2- Play Destiny with my old roommates & bro-in-law (who ended up not buying it).
All in all, it's unused just sitting there getting stale. I shouldn't have bothered with it as both major reasons ended up failing.
Edit: The cheese is old and moldy. Where is the bathroom?

^ I suspect this is the biggest TECHNICAL barrier.
What if your guardian's primary weapon storage was filled with nothing but Monte Carlos?

^ Extreme example, but valid nonetheless

There are a vast number of possible solutions. Admittedly it is a problem that would need to be addressed, but it's not insurmountable.
You could just treat all exclusive guns as if they were Khvostovs, they'd keep the exotic icon (perhaps with an X through it) and they'd just use the Khvostov gun model & firing stats.
Perhaps you could auto equip a non-exclusive, if they don't have one give them a khvostov, if their inventory is full of exclusives prompt them to delete one before they can play (really, in this extreme edge case they're asking for problems, why the crap would you be carrying around 10 Monte Carlos?).

^ Edge case.

I don't particularly like this solution. You would be hindered for buying two copies of the game, since you'd have no way to separate the accounts (barring providing yet another e-mail to Bungie).
(really, in this extreme edge case they're asking for problems, why the crap would you be carrying around 10 Monte Carlos?).
Don't think of it as 10 Monte Carlos, but as a combination of exclusives. A Monte Carlo, a Hawkmoon, a 4th Horseman, the new exclusive guns, etc.

meh, not as bad as you think...
They already do this with class armor -- making it so you can't equip it across classes. This is basically the same problem.
If it's equipped, un-equip it and put it in your inventory, and not allow it to be equipped. Send it to the postmaster if there's not room in your current inventory.
The vault would be better, if there is space, but the postmaster is probably technically the easiest, as they do that all the time with other rewards given to you and you're already full. The only question in my mind would be if items are "real" items while at the postmaster, or if they're template items. If they're templates that get really created when you receive them, that'd have to be changed. Otherwise probably ezpz.

^ I suspect this is the biggest TECHNICAL barrier.
if they don't have one give them a khvostov, if their inventory is full of exclusives prompt them to delete one before they can play
It's even simpler than that, really. Just move one to the Postmaster.

meh, not as bad as you think...
All totally doable. Everyone's coming at this as a technical problem but I doubt that it is one.

Level up your dude and play with us!

I think I see what you're saying. Yeah, moving from what is currently essentially two separate accounts to one account would be problematic. I was saying that they could have done it to begin with and that the TECHNICAL problem of exclusives is solvable.
Add to that the fact that having purchased the game on previous gen & current gen platforms is the essentially same thing as having purchased the game on two separate platforms (excluding platform exclusives of course). Why can't you have 6 different characters, 3 for the 360 & 3 for the xb1? Same argument for PS vs XB.
Yeah, but, as it is now you can only have 1 exclusive weapon equipped at any time (as they are all exotics) so this negates the combination problem of multiple exclusives across weapon types and just leaves just the 1 weapon type that has the currently equipped exclusive as the problem to deal with.
The only time auto-unequpping is going to be a problem is when they have all 10 slots of that type filled with exclusives. At this point in time the primaries (if we pick the primary weapon slot as the one equipped with an exclusive) would have to be filled with Monte Carlos & Hawk Moons. Few people have 10 of these, and even fewer would have them all on the same character. My point is that's an edge case that the vast majority of players will never encounter, and if they do it's likely because they're trying to break the platform exclusivity of the weapons. Because it's such a rare edge case then a less-than-stellar solution should be acceptable.

^ Same. It's a marketing/legal problem.
- No text -

Then why did you assert it was a technical problem?

My take is that technical problems exist, but they are solvable. They won't get solved because of marketing/legal reasons.

I agree, it's not a tech problem -- that was my point. :D
To clarify, I was agreeing with you in the first place.
^ Same. It's a marketing/legal problem.
I really think it's that type of problem, too. However, I think the executives and marketing departments are missing the truth of the situation. Cross-platform multiplayer seems to me like it would probably drive sales on both consoles because people who have one console currently have no ability to play any games with their friends who have the other (assuming all parties only have a single console). Imagine if Destiny pioneered true cross-platform multiplayer. Even gamers who weren't absolutely enthralled by Destiny's gameplay would be drawn in by the fact that they could play with all of their friends. It would be unique on the market for a while, helping to drive up its install base and create dedicated fans for future installments. I wouldn't expect that more copies of Destiny would be sold to people who are willing to buy the game on two separate consoles to play with two different subsets of their friends than the number of potential new buyers who would jump on the ability to play cross-platform because no other game has that.
What do I know though? I just would love to see that happen so that I can play with all of my friends who decided to get Playstations (which is all of my friends except one). :P

^ That is why.
My point was that the exclusives are just a technical problem that can be overcome, the larger hurdle consists of the contractual obligations the platforms hold Bungie to.
