Favorite House of Wolves Exotic weapon? (Destiny)

by petetheduck, Wednesday, July 15, 2015, 23:21 (3519 days ago)

I've yet to finish my Elder Cipher, but I've been planning ahead and think I have it narrowed to Queenbreakers Bow and Lord of Wolves. I was initially just planning on Queenbreaker's Bow but watching Lord of Wolves footage, that thing just looks ridiculous.

Dreg's Promise just looks meh.

Those of you with these weapons, which one is your favorite and why?

I think the best all around is Lord of Wolves. It is ridiculously good in PvE, and still a lot of fun in PvP. On the other hand I find Queenbreaker's to be rather meh in PvE. The only real benefit in PvE seems to be you have a lot of reserve ammo, and it doesn't suffer as much from some of the damage penalties that snipers do since it's a fusion rifle. In PvP however it is really, really fun. Getting no scope kills reliably is a blast.

I do love my Dreg's Promise, but for only one reason: that reload animation is amazing!

That recovery boost is terrific. Also it sounds like an AA gun. Also it spits fire.

Heh, that was my first thought as well. Some day I'll get an Elder Cipher.

But that's only because I don't have a Lord of Wolves yet to compare it with.

That thing is everything Vestian Dynasty didn't quite make it to be. Only downside I have found is that it goes through ammo like I go through tortilla chips. Graverobber simply does not proc often enough, imo.

I like lord of wolves better than the bow, but I don't play PVP.

I've got Queenbreaker's Bow and Lord of Wolves so far... I'm not much of a sniper, so Lord of Wolves has been more fun for me personally. I also have a tough time seeing how QB earns an exotic slot. Not much reason to use it over any other sniper, far as I can tell. I suppose it has a higher ammo count, but I'd rather go with Ice Breaker in just about any possible situation. I will say that I've seen people do quite well with it in PvP. Might be stronger in that area.

I've had 4 elder ciphers, so I've used these guns extensively.

Lord of Wolves is a great gun in PvE. Decent in PvP.

Queenbreaker's Bow is mediocre in PvE, and mediocre in PvP, except in the right hands. Big perk is doing low impact sniper damage (think Praedyths) but with like 130 shots.

Dreg's Promise is awful in PvE and awful in PvP. HOWEVER, it is way better than Vestian Dynasty, and if you want 5000 sidearm kills for 15 grimoire, well, then you've gotta start somewhere, and I highly suggest using Dreg's Promise over Vestian Dynasty.

If I did not care about grimoire, I would buy them in the order I listed them. Not just for efficacy, but for the fun factor as well. In fun, QB and LW are about even.

There's really only one reason in my opinion: it's a sniper you can hip fire with. I've even used it like a fusion rifle to finish off opponents in Crucible that I would have died to with a regular sniper.

Dreg's Promise may be slightly better in PvE (which I'm still not sure I agree with, but it is more fun regardless), but it is TERRIBLE in PvP, while Vestian Dynasty is great in PvP. Finishing off an opponent with Vestian Dynasty is quicker than with any other gun (plus you switch to it faster), and it only takes 4 shots no matter where you hit to kill someone at full health.

I think what makes the difference for Dreg's Promise being worse in PvP is the travel time of the shots. You can fire at someone 5 feet in front of you and miss because of how slow the travel time is.

People keep telling me that Bestian Dynasty is good in PvP. I can't kill anyone with it. I usually don't even get damage numbers, despite the reticule being centered perfectly. Is there some trick to it that I'm missing?

From what I've been able to gather there are two things that are a little bit tricky about the Vestian Dynasty:
1. It seems to have 0 bullet magnetism. A headshot you'd get from lazily pointing your hand cannon will often just plain miss with Vestian
2. Like the Dreg's Promise it does seem to have a short travel time. So you need to lead your target by a tiny bit. It's not nearly as bad as the Dreg's Promise's travel time, but I'm almost 100% sure it exists.

It definitely took me awhile to get used to both of these, but I find the gun so fun to use I ended up learning how to use it mostly in Patrol and thankfully the lessons seem to have transferred to Crucible.

That and don't even think about saving shots. Consider the VD an emergency "oh crap" backup weapon and put every round you can into the enemy until one of you is dead. The faster the better. You've got enough firepower to kill at least two and maybe three or even four Guardians so don't worry about missing a shot or two. Just win the battle and reload.

At least that's how I use it. :)

Ottermack and I were playing Trials of Osiris a few weeks back, and we ran into a guy using Vestian Dynasty. Any time we were reviving each other, this guy would rush in and kill us before the revive animation was completed. I don't know if it's some kind of bug, but the sidearm seems to go straight through the revive shield.

Makes sense, revive shield is actually pretty weak compared to the regular shield. It can't even protect you from a headshot from a sniper.

Except there is usually a short period of full invincibility as you are just being revived... Vestian Dynasty seemed to ignore that as well.

Hmm, I may have to test it. I'm guessing the invincibility is still there, but since the guy is firing so many shots it may be hard to notice when it's not doing damage. I'll try and remember to use Vestian this weekend in Trials and test it out.

Also, definitely use the stability perk. It makes a BIG difference in how many shots I land, more so than with any other gun.
