I like Trials. It's hella frustrating at times, but oh so sweet when you win. And I've felt like I'm really not that great, but I also wanted to see how I compared to some of us here on DBO who have played. So I pulled some stats from DTR and compiled a small list of those who I know play fairly frequently.

My original mission was to develop a basic ranking scheme based on 5-10 categories, but as I continued to complete the board, it became pretty obvious who were the better players, and which categories contribute most to "greatness" :)

My biggest surprise was the gap between consoles. This may be because the sample size is so small, but DANG.

This fits with what I am hearing. The PS4 guys get there every week. Many of us Xboners have been to the Lighthouse quite a few times, but it hasn't been a guarantee since like week 5.

The initial hypothesis was that the PS4 crowd is softer because of the competitive gaming history on the Xbox. Speedracer said they seem similarly competitive however.

But, looking at the people playing, it seems like a lot of DBO's objectively best players are on the PS4, which is sufficient enough to me to explain the disparity.

Combat rating is some kind of rating Bungie uses to rate your PvP play. I say "some kind" because they haven't told us how.

Not sure. It seems like a number Bungie has used to quantify our performance in PvP. I've seen it on their website.

I've talked a lot about this lately with people like Korny and IconicBanana. Since I have probably split time between the platforms more than anyone else here, a lot of people ask me whether PvP is more competitive on Playstation or Xbox.*

My answer is: I feel like it's more competitive overall on the PS4 (and I know Korny, who has been playing on both a lot over the past couple weeks, feels the same). Banana has pointed out that if you look at the top overall rankings on Destiny Tracker, most of the Top 10 Crucible players in the world are on Xbox. After thinking about it a lot, I'm going to guess that what's going on is that the really top-tier competitive PvP players (that likely came up from Halo and CoD) stuck with Xbox, while a lot more people that are really good at PvP (but not necessarily MLG-level) made the move over to Playstation. I feel like there might be more top-tier players on Xbone, but when dealing with the much broader pool of somewhat-above-average players, the competition is a little more fierce overall on Playstation 4.

* Speaking of splitting time between the platforms -- I have now completed all of my "Moments of Triumph" on both platforms, and I'm just curious if there is anyone else from the DBO community that has done the same...?

3 more GT's added. Monky-058, Guardian513, and slycrel all for PS4. Korny and Speedracer are the only two crossovers I have so far and it's pretty crazy to see the difference between the two consoles. Korny's Xbox is a really small sample though and I'm sure it will improve in the next couple months. Speedracer is consistently lower in all categories on Xbox though with a good sample size in both. I'd like to see more crossovers (I'm looking at you Cruel :)

I've only been to the Lighthouse 5 times, but I think I've won 27 of the last 28 games I've played.

I expected to be low, but I can't possibly have played 254 games. I really don't Trials that much. Are you sure that's not meant to be rounds?

If nothing else, I guess I'm inspirational - second lowest on PS4 and I've still Lighthoused 5 times. If I can do it, anyone can.

EDIT: Also yay, many revives. 152 more revives that revived? That's insane. Can't believe my stats are so low considering a 95.4% win these last couple weeks. Must have really sucked beforehand.

We've talked about this a bit. My hunch is that there's a larger population of people playing trials on PS4 than Xbox one. It's either that or the PS4 people are just a lot better. I don't think we can base much on the fact that you or Korny perform significantly better on PS4 than Xbox because your gear and teammates aren't comparable.

It baffles me that my rating is high. It makes literally no sense, considering my KD is pathetic.

Had no idea I'd played so much Trials.

I'm thinking about taking certain categories, sorting from 1st to worst, and then averaging the positions of each of those categories for each player. The player closest to 1 being the "best". The issue is that there are always intangibles that can't be accounted for. Also there are categories that represent different skill sets, and some categories that may reflect more on how your teammates perform rather than your own performance.

I've devised a formula to rank what I believe are the best Trials players on DBO. It's somewhat based on the old College Football BCS system where I take an average of rankings from different categories to compile a player index. The lower the index, the better the player.

Coming in at #5 we have the Xbox pro SquidNH3 who had the highest K/D of any trials player to date.

@ #4 We have another Xbox legend Zero Point Fox. For those that have played with him, it's no surprise he landed in the top 5.

#3 Munky-058 is our first PS4 master. While his Xbox doppelganger KornyMunky came in 17th on the power list, we can clearly see it's all due to his lack of time on XBL with only 17 games. He may be our first to get two GT's in the top 5!

Our runner up is Cyber-kn on the PS4. Cyber's claim to fame is the highest win % @ at whopping 78%! It just doesn't seem real.

And finally, last but certainly not least (unless you are looking at his revive differential), we have the current champ, Ottermack. Ottermack loves trials, he has played 449 games so far. Compare that to Theechaos who was 2nd in games at 270! Keep up the good work Otter!

Ottermack is a very patient player, in that he takes opportunities rather than forces them. When he dies, he is usually in a good spot where he can be revived because of that. Hence the differential. I interpret that stat to mean he dies in better places than his team does :-p
