Running Skolas for the second time (Destiny)

by TheeChaos @, Wednesday, July 22, 2015, 12:29 (3647 days ago)

Doing Skolas again tonight and need some tips. I know they have got rid of the burns, but what is the new "best practice" strategy? I hear something about hiding under some stairs but cant seem to find any videos regarding this? Or is it still the run around the map strategy?

Any advice or video links would be helpful!

Modifiers this week appear to be Small arms and Lightswitch

The good, safe method is to hide on the right in the room underneath the platform, but with lightswitch, a captain comes out and will melee you at least once. You will probably die. Have a defender with Saint 14 under there (it should help at least) and have found verdicts ready. Try to know when adds will spawn, cause that guy will come out. I have seen no videos, but once you get under the platform it's self explanatory.

Skolas takes extra damage from thorn's DOT on primary burn, so it's a great gun to use here.

We've also had luck doing it on the platform so we have a bit of warning when someone is going to pop up and stab us.

The running around method still works as well as it ever has. It's just harder than staying put, IMO

On primary burn, you will likely have to do both sets of mines WITH adds. I'd suggest setting up a very good rotation where you know who goes out based on who has the taint when you set the mines off. They go at 50% and 25%. You will have to eyeball this or keep count of the adds. Counting is hard for me, so we eyeball it generally. Also I have principles where if I think doing something in the game makes me take it too seriously I will refuse to do it no matter the benefit. One of those things is a Crota timer, one of those things is counting Skolas add rounds, and another one of those things is slide shotgunning. Anyway, know exactly what to do ahead of time because it's going to go tits up as soon as the thing starts.

Try to send out a self revive warlock. In my experience, this works great, and saves us almost every time. Another option is to leave the self revive guy with the taint at the right platform hole while the two others go to the far spots. It will take the adds a little while to get to you. When the right platform mine shows up, self revive warlock (who should have died with the taint) can revive and dismantle that mine while Skolas and bad guys are making their way to the opposite side of the map at glacial speed. This works, but requires planning and shit.

So, if you're as averse to planning as I am, make sure you have a self revive warlock with you to make sure you can have a little oopsie and still recover.

EDIT: here's a map.

Underneath the M at the bottom left is where to hide. It will look like this.

Slycrel, Peaks & I just eyeballed his health, cleared all the adds just before mines (50% & 25%) and then, all sticking together, ran out of our hidey hole, burned him & all hit the mines together, while passing the debuff between us, and then hiding again in our little hole on the right. Admittedly, this was last week when the modifiers weren't too bad. It took us some time, and we were so very close and failed a few times, but we (3 somewhat average players) were able to do it.

Here's where the 25/50/75 points are

In the same vein as determining how many hits Crota needs by comparing his yellow health bar to the letters of his name above it, here are the thresholds for Skolas:

25% is the vertical of the letter k in "Skolas"
50% is the center of the letter a in "Skolas"
75% is the vertical of the letter K in "Kell"

I'll whip up an image later.

Follow-up to my earlier post (not that anyone will see it this far down the page :). Based on a few runs, I believe this is where his health thresholds are when using his name as the measuring stick:

I'm going to print this out and leave it on the side of my TV like a tech incompetent secretary.

Looks like either strategy will work. Just take your time. and kill adds before ANYTHING. Then kill servitors once you have the ammo/supers. Then Nuke him. Then repeat throughout. The mines may be the hard part depending on class builds. if we have a hunter he can sneak through. Warlock can just out and if he dies just rez. I dont think we will have any problems. Just take our time and worry about adds first.

Here's the last 15 minutes of Skolas a few weeks ago when he had the same modifiers.
