I noticed that after doing the glitch with a level 5 character, I could not buy etheric light when I got that character back up to level 3. It only let me buy light again at level 5.

A. If I do the glitch then rank up again, do I get 4 EL or does the glitch get me my allotment for the week?

B. If I kill the Destiny app on my Xbone after buying my EL and don't touch the game this week, would my rank remain at five until next week?

If I am not mistaken as soon as you go somewhere else or maybe even leave the tower that first time , your rank resets. My guess is next time you log in after the next reset your rank would go to the correct 0.

If you have multiple characters though, you can just leapfrog which character you use for the glitch.

I've only dome it once, and I don't think Im going to bother this week though. Once you get a single character to 5 the alt buff makes it trivial to level the others. I did it by accident last month because I play too much Destiny. If you're short on time though, I reccommend it.

You can buy the two etheric light today (with the glitch) and then still rank that same character up again throughout the week and get the two etheric light again. So yes, you can get 4 etheric light on the one character.

I'm pretty sure that won't work, but even if it did - you would probably have to wait a whole month without playing Destiny again until the next Iron Banner to exploit it again (not just next week).

That didn't work for me last time. My warlock was level 5 when I did the glitch. I bought 2 etheric light with the glitch, but when I releveled to level 3 it would not let me buy another. It said I had to be level 5. I swapped to my other characters and didn't try getting the warlock up to level 5, but according to that the best you can do is 3 etheric light.

This was my experience as well, and I'm pretty sure Funk actually leveled a character he did the glitch with up to rank 5 once and couldn't buy it then either.

I'm 95% sure that two Iron Banners ago I did the glitch on my Hunter and bought two and then re-leveled that same Hunter to get at least the one for hitting level 3. I guess I could be wrong, but my memory tells me that I ended up with 7 etheric lights from that Iron Banner week.
