Very exciting stuff about Patrol, which is probably my most-played mode technically.

Yeah, I especially liked this part:

"The Dreadnaught has its secrets—you’ll need to return again and again to solve them all and acquire the rewards we created for doing so. There are hidden treasures and bosses waiting to be found, and it won’t be apparent how to access them the first time you go exploring. We’ve laid out a lot of breadcrumb trails though, as you fight your way through the ship. So follow the clues you’re given, face the challenges you can find, and earn that sweet loot!"

Yeah and, if I'm reading correctly, also the ability to initiate a Public Event/Patrol job sounds really cool.

It also reads like the base level of the area will definitely be higher than the Vanilla spaces. Which stands to reason there will be new locations that have enemies that are of notably higher level than the baseline that may be blocking paths until later. And maybe they'll be blocking actual paths.

Also, look who posted it on B.net. :)

Yeah it looks cool and it'll probably be comperable in size to patrol spaces we have now, but the idea of guardians freely boarding and leaving a Hive Capital ship on a whim seems... far-fetched?

I too am very curious to see how they fit that in thematically...

The patrol probably gets unlocked in the middle or at the end of the campaign. Just like banishing crota's soul, there will be some sort of event like that at the end of the campaign. Once that's done, patrol becomes perpetual "cleanup" mode, as there's a (likely) immobile ship acting as a new moon to saturn that's still hive infested.

From the media we've seen, it looks like the Cabal have crashed their way into the Dreadnaught itself. Maybe we are piggybacking their back doors.

The Weekly update, the second pair of concept/in-game images is a crashed cabal ship, per this page linked by Bungie earlier in the week: https://www.artstation.com/artist/artforagefight

There is a set of "Cabal Assault Ship images" that match what is in the concept/in-game as well as in the main Dreadnaught concept art from the start of this Weekly update.

I imagine we'll have a mission or two hitting the Dreadnoughts AA or something.

Either that, or Oryx wants us here. I mean, if he wants to kill us, it'd probably be easier to do it with an army that can swarm and outmanuever one target. At least then he can find and confirm the kill a lot easier that way. Might also be a ritual/pride deal.

It'd be cool to have a harrowing landing sequence our first visit. I doubt it'll be cleanup until we complete the raid, which I don't think will be a part of the given story - Like PoE, VoG or CE before it. Because only so few people have the opportunity to raid anyways.

I thought the same thing for the first thirty seconds when I saw it a few days ago, but I think it really depends on how you look at it. If you imagine that you're watching it on a VHS and the characters are 12 years old, it has more of a nostalgic tone. The bad effects and (relatively) low effort make it more endearing in a way.

Think about it less like it's a group of adults making a short film and more like a handful of neighborhood kids acting out a video game in the trees in their backyard.

Little harsh, don't you think?

by BeardFade ⌂, Portland, OR, Thursday, July 30, 2015, 22:13 (3637 days ago) @ DreadPirateWes

Given the difficulty of making a short film, I think you're being really disrespectful here. One of our own DBOers is in the film, and a good friend of several DBOers is the film creator. I'll admit, it's not a thing of beauty by box-office standards, but it's pretty impressive what he did with no budget, a little cleverness (the vault doors are drum cymbals), and just the sheer desire to do it.

Also, if you knew the guy making it, he's plenty capable of creating something more modern as that's what he does for a living. It obviously was an homage to an older cinematic style.

In the end, I think it's fine to not like the film, but wouldn't it be a lot more reasonable to say, "While I can see it took some work, I don't find it aesthetically appealing" rather than just lambasting it in it's entirety with no explanation as to why.

Obligatory challenge to make something better if you hate it so much sentence, though I've said my piece and have nothing to defend, just think it's worth showing a little class and decency about the whole thing and life in general.

yes, too harsh

It nails a level of special effects that was typical when they first started using green screens. You saw a lot of it in live-action children's programming in the 70s. I think it's going for that. Given that Destiny also involves 70s sci fi aesthetics at times, it kind of fits, but that's a stretch.

Regardless, I loved it.

I found it surprisingly awesome to see the Concept art and in-game side by side. There was just something about how they took that and transformed it into a functional space...

But yeah, I'm excited. No matter what has come before, good and bad, I'm still hella excited for this new space. It just sounds like Bungie is putting a 130% into this which makes me even more excited.

Perhaps “daring” would be more appropriate than “inviting.” The space-faring fortress of destruction is far from hospitable.

When I read the above, my brain added a t to space-faring. I thought, "dairing indeed"! I knew that couldn't possibly be what it said so I re-read it to confirm, but now I can't stop seeing it.

I really like what they're saying about patrol mode. new event types are always welcome, but they're making it sound like they're be actual exploration to do, and things we can initiate ourselves? Also, the phrase "patrol is no longer easy mode" sounds very exciting.
