New GI Vid: "The Taken King's New Approach to Storytelling" (Destiny)

Link here.

Not much new info (assuming you've already read the GI article or have been following the discussion), but it is a neat 10-minute video that focuses completely on how they are improving the story. There is also a lot of cool and new (at least to me) stuff in the b-roll though -- especially that Gatling-gun-style auto rifle.

Correction - the gun I was referring to is the auto rifle you see at 2:48-3:09ish, which does not have a revolving barrel like I thought at first glance - it just kinda looked that way because of the arc energy flowing around it.

It's not the grimoire in the game

Having your ghost scan things is "not the grimoire in the game" but it is apparently like having the grimoire in the game in that it gives you additional context about the world. Sounds great to me, but I still wish the grimoire cards were in the game somehow.

I pretty much agreed with the standard argument Grimoire needs to be in the game for a long time, but now I've come to the opinion that if the game had enough meaningful narrative, the grimoire would be considered extra cool stuff as it is currently implemented.

The Grimoire is fine

Honestly, the Grimoire is never more than a couple of clicks away. I press 3 buttons to access it on PS4, or even less on my phone. An in-game Codex would be nice, but what we have now is functionally identical plus you can read it when you're not logged into the game.

This! I'd love for some of the info from the grimoire to be in game, but for the love of all crazy theories and lore discussion, it sure is nice to have it in text form OUTSIDE of the game.

Edit: hyperbolic subject overstates my opinion. I'd like the grimoire to be more in-game, but I like being able to consume it outside of the game.

I also like to have the Grimoire outside of the game, but there are a lot of people who will never look at it as a result. I'd much prefer it to be in both places.

I don't see why the grimoire isn't just another menu tab

I can access my gear both in game and on bungie.net... why not the grimoire? I hate breaking immersion, and - honestly - the great content of the grimoire cards always just makes me feel despondent that so little of that excellent storytelling made it into the game itself. As a result, I actively avoid the grimoire because I don't want to read about how awesome the game's story could have been.
