Speculation on the identity of "you".

Alright. Not sure if this is worthy of a new topic, but heck, we’ve got a few days until all our speculations are proved wrong. :p

1. Our voice maters / mattered.

It influences the “trusted few”, dropping them instructions. The “trusted few” seem to form an army that follow those orders without question, not needing further instruction, courage, or prayer. That order, unless our army is getting confused Covenant style (which I doubt Bungie would do twice in a row) sets them on a path to search for us, but they don’t find us. Oddly they don’t find us because we don’t allow ourselves to be found. We influence from within larger winds using whispers and murmurs, codes and goads, but we don’t leave anything of substance behind except our followers. And then we hide so well that we may as well never have been there in the first place.

Whoever we are, we are influential enough, and clever enough to cause armies to rise up using nothing but skillfully hidden ideas, perhaps embedded in much larger systems like mass media. Subliminal messages even? We are building an army of those people, one so dedicated that they seek us out without any further encouragement, even though we’ve gone to great lengths to hide ourselves.

But hid ourselves from who? Keeping ourselves hidden is, supposedly, very important for some reason, but why? So far there is no real mention of an enemy.

2. We are / were world builders.

We have the ability to terraform planets from great distances. We can do feats as great as shifting the orbits of gas giants and forming moons or even planets from them. We like to build homes, entire planets, and not necessarily for ourselves.

For instance:

We are / have terraformed a planet (Mars?), blossoming it into a rose.

And

We remember a planet (Mercury?) that we previous terraformed and wonder what happened to it. As best we can tell either some force destroyed it, stealing everything of value, or whoever lived there, presumably whoever we built it for, decided to leave and took everything of value with them. I guess we don’t for whatever reason good or bad keep a constant eye on our creations.

Apparently the answer to that question, to what happened to Mercury, is ominous, like the heart of a collapsed star. Stars only make iron at the end of their life cycle, just before their death. A collapsed star is already dead. So which is it? What happened? The answer, the race perhaps, or maybe the planet destroying event, has a thousand names. Those names, that race, that event, is somehow linked to our past.

So who are we? There’s not enough info yet. But whoever we are, we don’t seem to be some lost / devolved / besieged group of Humans trapped on Earth, needing the protection of some huge battered spherical object.

At this point we only know of three “groups” in Destiny. Humans, The Traveler, and bad guy aliens with funny walking tanks. If the passages aren’t referring to Humanity I’d have to guess that the “you” the unlocked passages keep referring to is in fact the Traveler. Aliens with funny walking tanks don’t seem to fit the role of clever, hiding, world builders.

What is the Traveler doing above Earth all beat up then? Perhaps it is trying to protect its last creation from whatever enemy is out there?

All in all very intriguing!

Unless of course there's an insta-kill barrier because you've left the mission area.
