A post on Reddit caught my eye the other day. I've heard rumblings of the PS4 remote play app on Android, but I don't own an android phone. I was curious to see how painful/painless it would be to run the app through a PC android emulator, given that:

-I've never used an android device for more than 30 seconds
-I have very limited experience with emulators. Dolphin, A Gamecube/Wii emulator, is the only one I've ever futzed around with.

I downloaded and installed Bluestacks, then downloaded the .apk file. Ran the .apk file to "install" it, then restarted Bluestacks and started the installed app (had to search for it a little bit).

The App prompted me to sign in with my PSN account, which I did. It then started searching for my "home" PS4, which I had turned on and left idle at the dashboard. Roughly a minute later, the app found the PS4 and connected to it. Success!

I tried using my connected 360 controller, but the emulator apparently uses that for it's functions. Bummer. Fortunately, the mouse-operated on-screen controller is fairly intuitive, but there's no way you can actually play the game with this thing. (also, the game wouldn't advance past this screen until I pressed X for some reason)

There was roughly a half-second delay between my inputs and the system's reactions to them. Yep. Definitely not going to try to play with this setup.

Shortly, after wrestling with the latency and puppeteering my character about the tower, I arrived at my goal for the experiment:

Overall, the experience was pretty painless. Time to Xur from initial download of emulator: 15 minutes. Worked well for what I wanted to try to accomplish, but otherwise won't be using it much. 3/5, will use next time Xur sells the Ram and I am away from my PS4.
