Tales from the Lighthouse - Aug 17 *Videos* (Destiny)

by CruelLEGACEY @, Toronto, Monday, August 17, 2015, 12:54 (3624 days ago)

Another week, another little batch of Trials of Osiris highlights!

Went in on Saturday night with Cyber and TheeChaos. I had an off night, but it didn't really matter: Cyber and Chaos were unstoppable. We steamrolled straight through our first 7 games, going straight to the lighthouse without even using our mercy buff. I was really hoping for an Arc Summoner, so naturally Cyber got one (;p).

I'm not sure why I had such a tough time. I felt like I was just getting warmed up during our last couple matches. Could be that I've gotten used to playing 1 or 2 practice cards before going through with a Flawless ticket. I was missing shots that I would usually hit, and I was often late to the party (by the time I got into position, Cyber and Chaos had already killed everything). I've been using my Hunter a lot lately, and switching to my Warlock this week definitely left me feeling a bit sluggish.

The only team that gave us serious trouble was during our 2nd match: they were more aggressive than most opponents: starting from the inside spawn, they sent 1 or 2 guardians down the center lane while the 3rd would rotate and try to catch us in a cross fire. We lost the first 3 rounds before we figured out how to handle them.

This next clip was a fun match with some chaotic moments. Highlights include me scoring a clutch double kill while Chaos shotguns me in the side of the head, and Chaos being blinded by an enemy purifier-self res, but blade dancing his way through the entire team anyway to secure the win.

Finally, here's our last win of the night. A few good examples here of how NOT to use self-res, including an enemy resing straight into my Nova Bomb for the nail in the coffin.

My difficulties aside, we were all surprised by how easliy we made it through. Could be we just got lucky and were matched up against 7 easy teams in a row. But I've never been that lucky on a Saturday night before... in Destiny, I mean... ugh, who am I kidding. Cyber was wondering if some of the best Trials players are moving on or playing less, since they've all been to the lighthouse so many times by now. Could be? I'd love to do another run tonight or next week and see how it goes.

How about anyone else? Any fun Trials adventures this weekend? I heard we had at least 1 first-time trip to the Lighthouse :)

If anyone wants to see TheeChaos' perspective of that round, here's the link to his twitch VOD:

Round starts at 42:00 mark

Also, Cruel, I notice you rarely (if ever) swap to spectating your team-mates when you die. Is this intentional?

Usually. Depends on the situation. I want to keep an eye on my orb so I can tell my teammates if it is clear or not. It often gives me a decent spectator-cam to track the enemies' movements, too. I find that when I switch to follow a teammate's view, there is very little I can tell them that they don't already know.

Can I run with you next time? I'm back after all.

You should!

We usually know who we are playing with so we dont make an event. But it would be good to get others in the mix. We usually run Saturday Nights around 11-12. You can take my spot if no one else wants to back out since I dont really need much from the light house

New Weapons after TTK for Lighthouse

by TheeChaos @, Monday, August 17, 2015, 14:40 (3623 days ago) @ CruelLEGACEY

Good videos and better times! I should have drank if I knew we were going to do that good!

I do wonder if there will be any changes to Trials of Osiris after TTK releases. I really hope they add new maps to the mix as well as new weapons/armor. Its my favorite gamemode currently and would be a shame if the only incentive to play was that it was fun. (Not that that isnt enough, because it is now). I just dont want to feel obligated to ignore the game mode because it doesnt offer the new weapons are armor that TTK will.

food for thought i guess.

That is an interesting thought. I bet it will. Regular crucible and Iron Banner get new weapon rewards worked in, so I don't see why ToS wouldn't. Although the ToS is much closer to Raid gear in that regard, so I don't know.

I would love if they updated the old Raids, too. Not new gear or anything, just be able to bring things up to the current level, or at least close to it.

I'm really enjoying way they went with "Adept" weapons instead of pre-defined weapons for Trials of Osiris. Set perks, but random elemental damage. I can see why that might not work so well for the raids, but I'd love to see elemental primaries added to the Iron Banner collection in some way.

A little off topic, but I am excited that in the clips we've seen so far we've seen a number of exotic primaries with elemental damage in the Taken King. So far we only have 2, and I would love to have more choices than between Mythoclast and Necrochasm.

I guess you're talking exotics, but you can't forget Fatebringer, Word of Crota, Praedyth's Timepiece, etc. There are actually a decent amount of elemental primaries. Could always stand to have more though! :)

Considering I said exotic in there yeah I would guess that too ;) Which is exactly my point, we get quite a few primaries with elemental damage, but not EXOTIC primaries with elemental damage. How often do we skip on using an exotic primary because we have a primary with an element that will help us out? I would like to be able to use an exotic in my primary slot and have it be more effective than a legendary primary because it has an element.

I play mostly high-level PvE. Raids, Nightfalls, Heroics, etc. Elemental shields are a pretty big deal at those levels, so being able to burn through them quickly is a real advantage. Because of this, I never use Exotic primaries in PvE. I've got 14 legendary primary weapons with elemental damage, many of which go toe to toe with the exotics in terms of damage and handling. For a player like me, there is almost no reason to ever use any of the exotic primaries.

Me too. But when the new expansion comes out, so does Suros.

Heh, you're right, I totally skimmed right over you saying exotic. I even read that post through twice. Fail.

But that is a good point. I skip over using more fun exotics just because Fatebringer is so good.

Xenos, Beorn, and I made it on Saturday night. It was Xenos's first time (after a whole bunch of 8-1 cards), and he was pretty exciting when we clinched the final match (which turned out to be much more competitive then expected given the other team's gear). We started out pretty disjointed against some good teams, but then started playing quite a bit better once Red Robber started cheering us on through Beorn's Twitch stream. We actually lost the first match of the card, but pulled it together and won the next 7. I got a Solar Scholar (easing my lack-of-VoC pain) leaving me just an Arc/Void Messenger and Arc Scholar away from completing The Lighthouse Collection (TM).
