My preparations: (Destiny)

• Buy any faction armour I like the appearance of
  
• Buy the Vanguard and Crucible sparrows because I don't think Arcite-99-40 was selling them
  
• Buy any weapons I like the idea of rolling - just Fulcrum, Give/Take and a One/One Synesthete
  
• Max out my marks
  
• Keep an eye out for Rare Ships and Emblems sold by Eva Levante and Amanda Holliday
  
• Etheric Light. Lots of it. I want to Ascend all my gear if possible, and all my Raid weapons. Think I'll need 66 total, though I have already Ascended some stuff.
  
• Buy Speaker Emblems because they were suspiciously absent

Edit: Not sure how the new Attack and Defense system is going to affect old gear. Will there be a difference between Ascended VoG gear and un-upgraded? Or will everything get bumped to 170 or whatever it is.
