I'm still trying to figure out if it's worth trying to get my 3D-printed Hawkmoon past TSA...

Check it in a with a bag. If you declare you have a firearm in a checked bag, the TSA is legally required to inspect the bag in front of you, then you are required to lock it, which they are not legally allowed to open, and the airline will make damn sure they don't lose your bag, because if they do they are in big shit.

Probably doesn't work with a fake gun, but a starter pistol counts, and you don't need a license for one.

I would prefer not to have to check any bags though.

I figure if I tell them I have plastic fake toy gun in my carryon, that technically shouldn't be a problem - but probably not worth the potential hassle.
