The future of POE? (Destiny)

While I don't love POE (It's decent, but not amazing, but that's for another post) It fills a really valuable niche in the set of Destiny activities.

Getting a team of 6 together can be a pain, so the fact that theres fun Endgame content for teams of 3 added some nice activities that could be done even if you were playing at an off time. The level 28 POE is also a nice alternative to dragon strikes, as it feels less static than the strikes we've all run hundreds of times. Having a fall back if we can't get 6 to go do some content is pretty great, especially if everyone has run the NF.

So far though, there's been no love for the mode in the TTK buildup.

I'm really hoping they do some more to update the mode, and as a minimum, adding level 40/41 content. But alongside, I would love to see some taken in the arenas.

If they wanted to fix the bigger issues about variety, pacing, and dramatic arc, I'd be even happier.

Mostly though, I just want it to at least continue, not as a replacement to 6 person raids but as a compliment.

Isn't that what the Court of Oryx is supposed to be? Bungie's said it's not exactly like PoE, but you'll be summoning bosses in Patrol with your fireteam (and possibly other fireteams).

If we can spawn in the patrol area as a raid team, like we can in VoG, that could be very fun.

I've never heard the term "Court of Oryx" before. Where did this come from?

But to your point, I'd had similar thoughts about the boss fights in the dreadnought. Might be a cool alternative to Prison of Elders for people like me (if there are any ;p) who enjoy the bosses and find the rest dull.

Since PoE's activity has a different name...

Since PoE shows up as Arena when you're being inspected, I bet there are more PoE-like activities in the making right now.

It’s got its own bounties, it’s got new activities," he said revealing it may have its own new alternative to House of Wolves' Prison of Elders arena mode. He revealed a new mode called Court of Oryx, which by our estimation sounds similar in thinking. He further touted Dreadnaught's diverse offerings saying, "It’s got things like the Court of Oryx, which is a player-instigated public event that pits you against different combinations of different bosses in different scenarios. We’re putting a lot more control in the hands of the players to where your Destiny adventure unfolds, and the Dreadnaught is great evidence of a lot of the new things that the team is doing to change the way you play the game, and to change the way it rewards you.”

I don't think it's a full replacement, but if the dreadnaught maybe has a variety of activities that we could do as a 3 person team it could work. I'm asking less for just more POE, but something as meaty for 3 person teams.

I think there's a lot of value in 3 person end game activities, so I'm hoping they don't get neglected behind simply the NF and Heroics.

I also want some end game activities for lone wolves, but that's another post...

A couple of thoughts on that

1. TTK has been in development, at least in part, for longer than PoE. To make additions to TTK based on PoE may be too much.
2. Bungie wanted to focus on story, and expanding other portions of the game.
3. Even if not for the first two, it's likely that the success (or lack of) PoE wouldn't have been known until the scope of TTK was basically set in stone.

Assuming PoE isn't something they let die, I wouldn't expect major PoE (or similar combat) until year two expansion 1.

I'm leaning this way, too.

Yea, I'm figuring. Still, I'd like it to at least scale up some with level 40 enemies to keep it interesting.

but it doesn't sound like it's happening for TTK, but maybe in the future.

I hope that Bungie doesn't decide to replace Raids with Arena modes as they did in HoW though. Raids and POE fill very different roles and accommodate different play patterns.

Yea, it's true that TTK was probably hitting feature lock around or before the release of HoW. I hope they've take the feedback about what worked and what didn't in POE and applied it to other pieces of endgame content.

I feel the same way. I think PoE works fine as an alternative to the strike playlists, but I don't think it works in its current role of "end game" content.
