Just saw a post on Reddit that is pretty interesting.
The comments are the real interesting part for me. I've never really thought about Servitors being like Ghosts at all, or as being created in the image of the Traveler, but it makes sense.

Hmmm, interesting. I didn't read much past the original post, but the talk of Servitors being the Fallen equivalent of our ghosts reminded me of some early concept art.
Is that possibly a ghost sized servitor that he/she is holding?

Or perhaps (since it's concept art), it's supposed to be a guardian's ghost.

Maybe it's a fallen ghost? (keep dreaming, banana)
Still hoping the fallen become a playable class. If you were under the house of judgement, it wouldn't be too far a stretch to justify shooting other fallen.
You'd be like the fallen version of this dude.

I am loyal to House Guardians, yessss?

:)
-- Steve was a big player of Elites in Halo; he'd jump at the chance to start a Fallen character.

There's all kinds of interesting things in this realm. Why would Variks be building a servitor, doesn't he already have one, the Warden of the PoE? It looks empty in the middle though, it looks like one of those balls that spawn in the Vestian Outpost could complete it. If the Warden isn't a true servitor then how does Variks live w/o ether?
edit: changed 'orbs' to 'balls'

Via the ServitorBall of course!

I think the similarities are just coincidental. The Servitors are supposed to contain all the Fallen's technical knowledge. They know how to make the weapons, gear and ships needed. When the storm came, the servitors were the only way to preserve the Fallen's technical capabilities.
During the long travel from their home system those technical skills became limited to the machines as the fallen suffered cultural decay. From Varik's comments the House of Judgement used to provide that legal and ethical oversight, but no more. Without that, the Fallen became pirates, scavengers and worse, earning the title of "fallen". They believe that the "great machine" can save them again but they never considered asking humans for help, never explaining why they needed it. Instead they ravaged the human survivors and then tried to take the Traveler by force. Variks knows they have failed, and sees his ingratiating himself with the humans and Awoken as a last ditch attempt to save his race via diplomacy, yet he still has to keep the rest of the fallen from being wiped out, and he has to keep some of their trust.
I think he will play off the most aggressive fallen by sending them to face guardians and be killed. That is why he inquires about your ship, where it is and if you will be leaving soon.
That gains him favor from the pirates for giving "tips", and eliminates potential rivals. This is the same game he plays with Petra.
If successful he will be the last leader standing and hopefully have access to the traveler for all his ... "help".
Good reading...

I particularly liked this one by SanguineThought:
In the Hive universe (galaxy or whatever) they were the sword and they took out all other queens. They grew in the process by taking over everything not just wholesale destruction. Now the hive sword has the power of an entire universe (or galaxy or dementia or whatever.) Biggest damn sword ever.
The fallen are law, the cabal are sword, the vex are tower. Each on their own are equal to the others. Unfortunatly it is not the vex up against the fallen, it is every race for themselves vs Oryx, the point of the biggest sword ever.
Humanity is the one race that didn't go one path, we went all 3 and work together. This is exemplified by our races and classes. Tower is awoken warlock. Law is human hunter sword is exo titan. We are greater than the sum of our parts, our diversity and cooperation created a force to be feared and respected. We are broken and shattered and we are still greater than all 3 other races. We are the 3 queens working together.
Since the hive (or the darkness really) is the product of a sword rising to the top to become supreme, we can only combat it by raising to its level. Otherwise it will be a pawn vs a queen. Game over we loose. We are a match for the hive, now that we have our new subclasses and we are active on all teresteral planets in our system and we have the help of the reef. We are now equal to the hive (but not the darkness.) To Beat THE darkness we will have to join forces with the fallen, the cabal and the vex. I think this will be destiny 2 and 3. Fallen, under variks, will fold in with humanity as the story progresses. Vex will be incorporated by end of destiny 2. Cabal by end of destiny 3. End game destiny capstone will have 6 races, 6 classes, 12 man fireteams. The ultimate combination of all things sword law and tower.
And in the end we will create a new big bang. Thus proving tat light and life are greater than entropy and the end of all, at least for this round.

Spoilers.

It seems someone hasn't listened to Guardian Radio from back in June.
