What if Xûr charged different prices for different weapons? (Destiny)

by dogcow @, Hiding from Bob, in the vent core., Tuesday, August 25, 2015, 15:19 (3476 days ago)

My Strange Coin collection is slowly diminishing, I should start running the Weekly Heroics again.

What if some guns were worth more than others? I was thinking about how 'cheap' Gjallarhorn was and thought, "gee, that gun is really worth a lot more than the 23 strange coin it cost."

What do you guys think? Terrible idea?

Well, what would determine the price? Wouldn't a higher price indicate a better, or a more desirable item?

Okay, then who would buy low priced weapons knowing they aren't as good? Bounties and quest chains for all weapons is the way to go I think.

If I didn't have a hard light I'd still buy it at 'regular' price even though it isn't as good as gjallarhorn.

I have a few "budget" gun IRL. I know they aren't nearly as accurate or operate as smoothly, but they serve the purpose I need them too.

I'd also rather see Xur sell coveted items more often, but price them for what they are worth. Gallablaster should have been sold for 30-50 strange coins earlier in the rotation. Of course people would complain that its not fair because they are casuals and don't have the savings. I too am mad that I can't get one of these.

I'd have to return this one anyway even if I did because it's not red.

Well, he does already charge a different amount for primary/special/Heavy... You want him to raise his prices for specific weapons? Sounds a bit odd... Wish there was more to it than just buying them, though. Like, getting a random stat roll when you bought something.

It just seemed kind of anticlimactic to just drop a tiny portion of my abundant strange coin collection & get 2 extra Gjallarhorns, something that was so so so desired beforehand. Seems like it should really cost a little more than 17 SC (or whatever it was, I didn't even pay attention I had so many SC).

I think it goes against Bungie's ideals of "Every weapon in its weapon type is created equal" and they differ by play style and situation. In this case different prices within weapon type would make them seem unequal

then they could all be 17 strange coins :) I mean there must be something they can do to make Dragons breath and SGA preferable to the others.

Steal my suggestion.

Yes please. Dragons Breath seems so cool, and it is great in certain situations, but... gosh darn it could certainly have been way more awesome.

I have a maxed Gjallarhorn, Dragon's Breath, and Super Good Advice.

SGA is by far the most fun of them, and Dragon's Breath is amusing to me.

Gjallarhorn is just the best rocket launcher in the game; it's not really any fun.

At least then you could work at your own pace towards a goal.

Maybe every week one of them is randomly put at a discount comparable to what we're charged now.

That would be heartbreaking if you are a casual player who saves up, and then buys one that sucks or isn't right for you after all.

If you're a casual player, you won't be able to afford them at those prices. It'll be better to wait until they're on sale.

A Casual could save up for that, especially now with Weekly Heroic Strike matchmaking.

Cody's speaking about an edge case, but it really would be heartbreaking to be that edge case.

And, it'd result in them not buying any other Exotics, because they're saving up for the one they want, which could quite likely hamper their ability to do higher level Weeklies, and thus stick them in a trap that, when they finally get the item they were after, and find out they don't like it, they haven't actually escaped from?

A few things:

1. You don't need any exotics to do strikes. Heck, you don't need any exotics to do raids.

2. If they're able to commit THAT fully to obtaining the exotic, you would think that they might have a good reason for doing so. That reason is usually built up by the advice and testimony of others who have that exotic.

You know what's Heartbreaking? Trying and trying to get a specific exotic to drop for 12 months, while everyone else around you gets it, sometimes multiple copies. That's heartbreaking.
