Do Solar Titans/Arc Warlocks make Hunters obsolete? (Destiny)
by Durandal, Friday, August 28, 2015, 09:29 (3473 days ago)
Looking at the class perks and mechanics, it looks like the Sunbreaker and Stormcaller have large advantages in PVP and PVE over the Gunslinger/Bladedancer.
The Sunbreaker has more hammers then GG shots, hammers have a small aoe component, can get an overshield, can buff allies and debuff enemies. The tradeoff is slightly less range then GG.
The Stormcaller has a faster super regen, generates more orbs, doesn't need to be within melee range to damage enemies yet has the same or better herd thinning capabilities, and has a better melee.
The only thing Bladedancers have is the stealth mechanic, which is situational but can be very powerful.

This new class seems to be the counter to these super supers. Not to mention Golden Gun is still really powerful. The fact that you can have 4 golden gun shots, and possibly more kills due to explosions/overpenetration is nothing to forget. The new Hunter seems like a supers worst nightmare. Its what defender lacks, range. Defender has really good abilities, super supportive super, and suppression grenades. The new Hunter class has the suppression and support abilities, but just adds range to the super.
My answer is no, the new supers will not make Hunters obselete. That being said I am a Hunter lover. So this might just be wishful thinking.

Voidstalker has possibilities

The voidstalker has some interesting capabilities, and I think it it will bring something new to the game. The point though is that Golden Gun's 3 shot variant just doesn't seem as impressive versus the Solar Hammer. Looking at some of the video the hammers seemed to do the same range of damage on mobs, and the Sunbreaker has more of them even when the Symbiote is factored in, and has other bonuses.
You made some good points

Whenever I typically think about the functionality of classes I immediately think of PVP. Not so much PVE. So yes It looks like Solar Titans and Arc Warlocks would be better than other classes based on their super, but I dont think they will make hunters useless. Blade Dancer will be helpful for its stealth like you said.
Now that you made me think of this, I cant wait to storm call the thrall in the pit. muahahahaha

Yes, and give Atheon the hotfoot too

Yeah, the new classes look like lots of fun and I'm strongly considering running the old raids just to see how I can mess with mobs and bosses now. I wonder if you can stick Crota in one place?

That solar titan charge that sends flaming enemies flying should be awesome in the Abyss.
Crota hard mode - put the new hunters on boomer duty. Locked down enemies can't fire, right?

They could super shot crota and get the bonus damage when he is getting hit with the sword? and they could super shot templar/ Atheon. I wonder how the damage upgrade is compared to weapons of light?

I've heard that weapons of light doesn't affect the sword, but I wonder if the Titan Fire Fist will drastically increase the damage...

I know Raid bosses are different, but did you see how much damage the hammer did to that tank they took on? I've never seen a super do that much damage to that sort of enemy before.

It would be awesome if it got precision damage bonus. I mean it would kind of make sense. It's the first super (beside maybe the arrow) that has to actually be aimed. No offense to the Golden Gun users out there, but a one hit kill doesn't need to be aimed. The hammer is much weaker but does splash, so maybe... it would be cool.
so why do I miss with my golden gun so much? :/

Because you're almost as bad as I am at aiming? ;)

Because Nighthawk is supremely unforgiving?

Of all the supers GG is the only one you really have to plan ahead for. Ark Blade is a close second.
YES!

He was definitely wrecking that thing. Keep in mind they did the lvl 36 Strike with Level 40 characters. And the Titan burns were ticking alot too. Im sure it would still wreck if they were doing the level 40 one as well.

May be part of the new boss philosophy.

Luke also made a point of emphasizing bosses would have less health but more varied mechanics in 2.0. The tank may simply have far less health than the one in the Valus strike.
that shade step though

Also, you're forgetting that the hunters GG stops other supers dead if hit.
4 insta kills vs splash damage? No comparison.
Also, the GG has perks and items to boost it's Max range and accuracy.
I'm just more excited about being a hunter and finally being able to drown my team mates in orbs.
