Let's talk swords *Spoilers* (Destiny)

So during the last twitch reveal they showed a lot about the swords. They also used the swords a lot against boss like guys. My first question I asked myself was "So how is that going to work against bosses that one hit kill you?"

It seems like it's a great weapon to do a lot of damage to a single enemy, like a shotgun is. However in most cases, when you want to do damage to strong single enemy you never get the chance because you get killed. So now, Bungie gives us a weapon that has the same case use as a shotgun but even more to the extreme, it is a heavy, it's even closer range and it does more damage.

So does this mean that they will be changing how bosses ground pound? Will the boss ground pound be directional (as I think it should be) or is it going to stay omni-directional? I also heard rumor of being able to do things like blocking with the weapon which I think would be really cool. It sounds like it has multiple functions because the guys told Laced Up Loren to "use the uppercut" as if he had to specify the attack move to her.

Anyway, I really like the idea of swords (as a titan bruiser) but I feel like they are still not that useful if they don't come with the right abilities for PvE and PvP.

From what I understand, yes. Specifically, they are removing the damage; they talked about it during the Shield brother's stream, and when the bosses did ground pound, the worst that happened was the offending guardian being launched across the room.

The wall can still kill you if you hit it though.

So I still don't like that. I want to be able to actually dodge or counteract the stuff they throw at you. Like the good ol' days of shield dodging Hunters in Halo (minus the one hit pistol kill)

It looked like there were mechanics to avoid and time the ground pound. I'd recommend going back to re-watch that boss fight, they talk about it a bit. Lukems also tweeted about boss mechanics changing, I think? I don't have time to dig around for the relevant sources atm.

If I remember correctly, the uppercut took more away from the ammo count (I think 5) than the normal swipe (I think 2). Maybe swords have special moves that do more damage? Is that what made this one an exotic?

I don't know. But I noticed that Urk had an Arc Sword but LUL had an Exotic Solar Sword... so maybe they comes in different flavors?

It looked like the last one was a Void Sword, as well. I mean, I think that's to be expected; we get every element flavors of other weapon classes.
