360 pre-order: should I just give up? (Destiny)

by Oholiab @, Wednesday, September 09, 2015, 00:42 (3601 days ago)

I want to part with my money and pre-order this game. In fact, I want to do so twice over. Alas, I still cannot preorder the digital download for the 360.

On the Xbox Store it states: "Guardians that previously purchased Destiny and both expansions - The Dark Below and House of Wolves - have special access to purchase a standalone digital download of Destiny: The Taken King. Check in-game for more details."

Uh huh... not sure what "check in-game for more details" means.

I was hoping - perhaps naively - that I would actually be able to pre-download the game and get some play time in before going into the studio on Tuesday.

Should I abandon that dream and just plan on purchasing it on 9.15? Will that count as a pre-order and include the bonus?

I dunno, I've been wondering the same thing.

What do you get if you click on the little taken king icon in the director? On PS4 there's an in-game popup with purchasing options.

I could've sworn they said they weren't doing previous gen versions or something--maybe that was for something else.

Apparently, there's a Taken King icon in the Director--I guess you buy it from there. Not sure, though--my 17 gigabyte update crashed and now I have to re-download all 42 gigs again. Nice job, Microsoft.

Well, if you buy it on release day, then it's no longer a "pre-" order...but you still have a week--hopefully this will all be resolved by then.

No dice...

I get a message that says, "The Taken King is Coming Soon". Press A.

Honestly, the lack of conclusive information on the matter is frustrating. I suppose there are good reasons why there's no clear answer, but it would be nice to know those reasons nonetheless.

Should I abandon that dream

Yes. Digital pre-orders have never existed on 360 as far as I'm aware, and they're not going to start now.

As for this bit:

Uh huh... not sure what "check in-game for more details" means.

What it means is check in-game for more details, once TTK is out.

It certainly does something to maximize the amount of doubt and uncertainty, doesn't it?

Almost as if the only way you could make SURE you could play TTK at launch would be to upgrade your console.

Nah, that can't be it, though...

Are things that odd on the PS3 side, or are those people all set?

They weren't doing previous gen versions of TTK? That's definitely not true.
