Post Patch Shotguns (Destiny)
Does anybody else feel like shotguns were barely touched in PvP? I feel virtually no difference from either end of the barrel. I don't know, it's just that fusion rifles got hit so hard and shotguns didn't. Combine that with the auto rifle buff, and fusion rifles are in worse shape than before.
I've moved over to shotguns and I was Mr. Fusion!

Shotguns are still good in crucible, and noticeably worse in normal content.

Auto rifles don't seem that much better. They will do a bit more damage up close, but the range drop off is much more noticable. Plus my U4Anything's hammer forged perk was cut in at least half so it don't have as much range as I was expecting. Still good though cuz it has rangefinder too.

Try hardlight.

A full fireteam wielding it is a thing of terrible beauty.

It was the first one I tried, but still felt kinda meh. Love the new sound, and effects. Be careful with that ricochet because it will damage you as well :)
Suros is about the same but has less stability. My Summoner seemed to work pretty well. Atheon's Epilogue is a tad better too. I think the issue for me is that I have a mid to long range play style and AR's fall off so much quicker that I don't get the benefits. My U4A is my best AR now due to having 2 range perks.
Pulse rifles have really become my weapon of choice now, with my NL Shadow in a close second. My hands down favorite gun so far is my old Time on Target from TDB. It lost a tiny bit of stability but is the best gun for me. My allfates won't cut it now since they can't two shot anymore and I can get 3 bursts out of ToT much quicker. And my poor Hopscotch pilgrim :( They downgraded it to an allfate impact class. I gotta think Messenger will be the most sought after gun in the game. I may have to break out my Three Little Words since it has more stability than Spare Change.
HC's I have no clue about. I don't use em. From what I've heard it sounds like the nerf was just enough to remove their sniping ability and make them a short to mid gun for the skilled hand. I'm curious about Thorn and LW. Hopefully they are a little worse.
All in all it really seems like there is more balance in Primaries and each primary has a role that fits a situation/map/playstyle. Unfortunately shotties seem identical, but I guess their use will depend on how Fusions turn out. That new test Fusion Rifle was woopin my ass so maybe there is hope.

If you don't like Hard Light, use the Monte Carlo method
Seriously, it's great in PvP. My new favorite gun (sorry, Hawkmoon). Plus, thanks to Armsday, I have learned that Monte Carlo is in the same style as the Haake weapons.

Haven't tried PvP, but my Invective didn't feel to nerfed in PvE. Maybe that's just 'cause it's Invective?
Also, I just got my first Etheric Light (yeah, I know). Do these still have a purpose?
Try hardlight.
I tried it after you told me about it last night. Here's one result:
Overall, it was dang satisfying to use Hard Light again. I'd forgotten how much fun it is and the new effects and effectiveness make it even more so!

You got etheric light after the update or before? Because as far as I now, the only point of etheric light now (if you can even get it) is to trade it in...
Nope. It's to upgrade your old tat
For purely OCD/sentimental reasons (delete as appropriate)

Really?

I was owning fools with HL where I was unable to get kills with it before in the crucible. The new ricochet effects are great for discouraging an enemy from running around a corner.

Looking forward to Monte Carlo
When it unlocks for XBONE :) That ROF class is probably my favorite in AR's.

Just played a full team of blink Shotgunners with Messenger and Proximity rockets and I'm sad to say they melted us.
Turns out if you play like the Patch didn't happen... The patch didn't happen.
