- For only 27 Strange Coins you can level up a faction with the Nightfall Buff. You need 81 Heavy Ammo Synths per level with the Buff. If you are close to rank 25 I would recommend doing this so you can start your faction quest.

Only 3 heavy ammo synths per strange coin.
Can't have people getting geared up for the raid that easily.
So it'll take 27 strange coins per level.

Crap. He's being stingy now.

Yeah, not sure why that changed.
I mean, I do know why but I think it is silly.

I don't regret my decision
I leveled up dead orbit two ranks last night and finally got Bittersteel. Besides the new ship and exotic bond I'm close to being DO complete on my warlock. Only at rank 47 too.

only 81 heavy ammo synths? That's 405 gally rockets down the drain. Think i'll take my time.
Does heavy ammo level you up more than the motes, materials and weapons parts exchanges?

Jealous.
I have three dead orbit shaders, all Bittersteel. The worst one.

Heavy Ammo is the easiest way to gain rep in my opinion since you can use strange coins (which are somewhat useless when you have 300+ of them already).
You can buy rep with 5 motes of light, which are good for reforging items, buying engrams, etc...
I believe it's 4 Special Synths which are somewhat harder to acquire now, but cost way more glimmer to buy then heavy if you use strange coins
you can also trade in armor materials and weapon parts for rep.

Rep gains.
5 motes = 100 (125 w/NF) rep
25 armor or weapon parts = 50 (62) rep
Heavy ammo synth = 25 (31) rep
4 special ammo synth = 25 (31) rep
Isn't the nightfall boost going away next week? I vaguely recall reading that.

Yeah, they are trying to figure out a way to do it so you don't feel like you have to complete it first thing every week.

I would wait..

**Even Pro-er tip**
Hold off on leveling your faction until the 15th, so you can get the new gear with greater light.
Also, if you're doing a faction quest, hold off on completing it until the 15th, as you have a better chance at a new exotic (the faction quests are real easy, so be careful about accidentally finishing it).

I'm pretty sure this is what I've heard also. if you need to hedge a faction up to 25 then I would do the rep gains now since you get the buff.

Crap. He's being stingy now.
And for probably the first time since he sold them, I went a few weeks without refilling my heavy ammo coffers. Bummer.

Think I'll hoard my coins for next week. (Year 2 gear...)

Don't the faction quests require you to do 10 Nightfalls as one of the steps?

10 nightfalls or heroics. This week's nightfall can be done in less than 5 minutes so I'd recommend grinding them this week.

People keep saying that, but what about this "Very Hard" label it now has? I'm skeered.

I would wait..
TRust me, it's not hard.
I did it on my Titan who was L34 with maybe ~160 light and it was a breeze. I'm not sure why the "Very Hard" label was on it, but it actually felt easier than it used to. The PUG I was playing with was very aggressive, which was an awesome change of pace. But yeah, it was definitely an under 10 minute endeavor

I would wait..
Heroic strike playlist next week might actually be fun, though.

lol, so my highest faction is level 7
until trials, i only played crucible during Iron Banner.
Guess i'll get there eventually.

lol, so my highest faction is level 7
I know that feeling. My Titan is at rank 8 for new monarchy. And then my warlock and Hunter have some higher ranks in a lot of them.

lol, so my highest faction is level 7
Yeah, I don't even know if my highest faction is that high...

Except, that they're not taking it away so much as they're effectively applying the buff to everyone whether they've run it or not now, right?
I thought that was the way they explained it, but I could be totally remembering that wrong.

Rep gains.
That kind of defeats the purpose of a buff. I mean, you do something hard to get something. The way it is now makes perfect sense to me.

True, but it was kind of meant to be a band-aid until they figured out how they wanted the nightfall buff to work. Rather than take away the bonus rep/XP that people were counting on, they'll just give it to everyone for now.

They said they were increasing the rep gains, but I don't know if they are increasing it to the level you got from Nightfall, they didn't really clarify.
Also, from the way they worded it, I don't think it'll come back in some kind of rep buff, they wanted it to be more of a "mark of prestige" to have completed the Nightfall.

Gotta give us Nightfall buff addicts our fix or we will go ape shit on them!

i never saw a problem with the way it was. You get xp for everything (except raids). If you do this one thing that is extra hard, then you get rewarded with the Buff.

I think there are a lot of people that agree with you, but I totally get where Bungie is coming from. If you wanted to max out your potential XP gain for the week you HAD to do the Nightfall first thing. Giving players options in what they want to do when they want to will often be a better system.

How about
And yeah as a programmer I see how obnoxious this would be. But how about when you do the Nightfall, you get the bonus XP/Rep for the XP/Rep you already gained that week as a lump sum upon gaining the buff.

Crota Raid now gives Eris Rep

It was ridiculously easy to do with a single teammate. A Fireteam of three can do it in no time.
Like I said, even level 20 people can run it (although given their low Light rating, they'll have a nasty time of it).

lol, so my highest faction is level 7
I got to Rank 3 in Dead Orbit just to get the Deadshot Luna when HoW came out, and deleted that character shortly thereafter.

Is this new 2.0 stuff? You can trade coins into faction leaders for heavy ammo synths and it increases faction XP?

You can buy heavy ammo synths from Xur for cheap. Then there is a material donation section in with the factions for you to donate stuff for rep with them.
This is the last week of the nightfall XP buff (as far as we know). When you trade in 1 Heavy Ammo Synth you get 25 rep (31 with nightfall buff).
If you are close to leveling up a faction to 25 then this is the best week to do it. At level 25 you are eligible to start the faction quest line which will yield you an exotic class item for your chosen faction.
Or if you are really trying for a shader or ship from a faction, then you can do it for cheap this week.
edit: This is still older gear, but not the Taken King gear until after Tuesday.

The idea is that you can trade in materials (even synths) to reputation. Trading heavy ammo synths give you the most rep. In fact the best way to do it is to buy with motes and then trade in the synths.

Every Day I'm hussilin
The problem was it only lasted till the reset, so you got inequitable rewards depending on when you were able to play the nightfall.

Maybe it's not possible . . .
With the server resets work, but could they make it so that if you do the Nightfall you get the buff for a week, regardless of reset? Or make it five days, or three, or whatever. I'm just not sure if it's possible for them to make it track to individual Guardians through the reset.

Maybe it's not possible . . .
Some consumables work on timers right now (telemetries, glimmer consumables, etc), so if they went that route they would just have to make it last for however many hours they settle on.
Knowing me, I'm still going to run the nightfall as early as possible. Mostly out of habit.

Guess I should have stuck to one character.
Yeah, I think 11 is my highest.

Didn't do the faction levelling at all; I was much more interested in levelling Vanguard, especially since for most of my time I wasn't playing in the Crucible.
-- Steve's pondering changing his approach this year, particularly now that faction rep doesn't displace Vanguard/Crucible rep.
