There are a number of ways, but I've found that the most reliable so far is just to dismantle the Legendary gear/weapons that you get (all Year 2) that you don't plan on keeping forever. The daily Crucible gives 15, so there's that...

Wait, what? How many have you earned in one day? Crazy :s
30 - Heroic strike 3 times
15 - Daily Heroic
15 - Daily crucible playlist
25 - Vanguard's Hand
25 - Do 5 strikes
20 - Taken War Venus
20 - Taken War Earth
There's 150 right there. Dismantle a bunch of crappy purples, and you're in good shape.

I'm nearly at 280 right now. I think I got really lucky drops, but I also used a lot of materials to upgrade my faction packages to get high level stuff early, did a bunch of court of Oryx to get high light blues, etc. I had saved a buttload of engrams before it came out to turn in, too.

Thanks again for letting me run with you two! I had such a great time.
I should have taken a break, but dang, I was having a blast. I ended up playing from 4am-Midnight. I managed to get both my Hunter and my Warlock to around the 240 light mark and have around 150 legendary marks.
I tried doing the 260 level strike at 241 and it was an absolute murderfest. I had a lot of fun, but it sucks to wipe on the final boss with less than an 1/8th of their health left.

I'll add that I got:
25 marks for completing a single Dreadnaught Patrol. Pretty fun, it's like a randomly generated strike.

by cheapLEY , Wednesday, September 16, 2015, 11:10 (3453 days ago) @ CruelLEGACEY
Because you used to be able to make up for it. You didn't have to play every day, you could play once or twice a week for longer periods, rather than doing a few things every day. And it sucks if you basically only mainly get marks from the dailies. If you don't do them you're missing out.

Not sure I understand your complaint.

Because, if you are playing to progress and get marks and gear, not all time spent is the same.
Consider you have two hours to play Destiny every week. If you spend those two hours over two days, you get more than if you spend 2 hours in one day.

Not sure I understand your complaint.

Ok, I see where you're coming from now. But I think it is waaaaay too early to worry about this. It's been 1 day. We know that dismantling legendary gear gives you marks. We're still in the early hours of this expansion, soaking up all the new gear we can find. But people who play as much as you and I will quickly begin scrapping rewards because we don't need them. We'll get plenty of marks that way.
Think of it like this: if Destiny year 1 ONLY rewarded marks for dismantling legendary gear, you and I would still have earned more marks than we could ever spend.

Congrats, Bungie!

Halo it was all the way in 343GS. Halo 2 was 10 yards in front of you in your first mission. Destiny doesn't seem to have the problem because of how the ammo and gun system works, dropping from enemies...and yet, playing the new strikes and some missions, they DO give you ammo crates. What's up with that?

Oh. The original TTC (from Old Man Murray) was to a CRATE, not an ammo crate. Any crate - the point was that game designers found them really easy to plop into games, so a high TTC told you that you were playing a slightly less boring game.
But even ammo crates... so you're not counting the grenade trays at the end of PoA, or any of the weapons/ammo packs on the ground on Halo (around dropships)?

I was thinking about Time to Crate yesterday
by Funkmon , Wednesday, September 16, 2015, 22:11 (3453 days ago) @ Claude Errera
Nah, those don't count. They were still creative and gave you guns in context of the story, and ammo crates don't count. 343GS just had guns laying on blocks, which is consistent with time to crate's philosophy.
I also know Destiny can't really work within the time to crate framework, I just thought it was weird they added ammo crates in the narrative.

Heh.

...ignoring the post if you don't find it constructive?
Because too often silence is mistaken for agreement. I've seen folks disuaded from joining DBO specifically and other Destiny forums in general because of the perception that we're/they're just gigantic whinefests that drain the fun out of the game, and I'm empathetic here having very nearly soured on Halo from all the negativitity until I took a social media break.
-- Steve'd rather see open discussion, thank you. Better for the community overall, even if it ruffles some feathers. (That, IHO, deserve a vigorous ruffling.)

I guess I'm replying here on this specifically because I find the ad hominem attacks more damaging to the tone and content of the boards than someone saying they have a concern with the game. If people prefer personal attacks over what they see as attacks against the game, then this becomes a community that is much much less attractive to me.
Now I'm going to go be an example and reply to cody in a different way. You be the judge if it helps or not.

This is important.

I love DBO. But one thing I see here a bit too often is:
* Person A complains about something in Destiny
* Person B insults person A.
It's OK to disagree with someone. It's OK to be completely flabbergasted by their opinion or complaint or the way they voice their thoughts. But if you can't communicate your own thoughts without resorting to personal insults... well I find that a lot more upsetting than someone voicing a negative opinion about a videogame.
Cody and I disagree on plenty of stuff. Anyone who frequents the forums will come across plenty of exchanges between the 2 of us where we discuss an issue from opposite sides. But not once has either of us resorted to personal insults or attacks. We, and many others here, keep things friendly while we disagree.
ps
Kermit, I just want to say specifically that I'm not including you in my statements about some DBOers resorting to personal insults. I was building off of Slycrel's post in a more general way. I took your response to Cody's complaint as more of a friendly poke than anything else :)

I see what you are saying. But they made this a good change IMO. Having no weekly cap is amazing. but in order for that to work they have to limit how many you can actually get in a week. They did this by limiting how many you could earn in a day. If they allowed you to get more per day, they would just put the weekly cap back on.

There is essentially a soft weekly cap, based on how many marks you can earn from the daily and weekly activities. Yeah, I guess you can dismantle items to get more, but you're looking at a small number of marks for that. You get marks for quests the first time only.
Prior it was a weekly cap which you could earn towards all week whenever you played. Now it is a weekly cap which only allow you to earn marks towards it at certain times.
I am not sure I see the improvement yet. The cap is still there, it's just much more limiting. For someone looking to play the progression and grindy game less because that is dumb, I get hurt way more than I would under the old system.
So uh, how do you earn marks?

WTF?
If you don't log on every day, you lose ONLY THOSE MARKS YOU COULD HAVE EARNED IF YOU'D LOGGED ON. The ones available to you when you ARE on, playing, do not go anywhere.
If you don't play, yes, your progress is slowed. BECAUSE YOU'RE NOT PLAYING.
Sometimes I simply don't understand what you're complaining about. :(

My argument is this:
In game about progress, your progress should pause when you aren't playing, but not go away. If you don't do the dailies, those marks go away. Under the old system, your progress paused since if you didn't earn your 100 marks one day, you could get them the next.
Those 50 pieces on the Dreadnought are there whether I take a week to do it, or a year. At the end, I still get those same 50 pieces. But you don't get the same number of marks if you don't play everyday. And guess what? I want to do the raid on friday, but can't log in everyday between now and then.
Unless 5 others want to promise to do a blind raid with me next week, I have to be ready on friday.

You've been losing marks on the daily for a year dude.

Because you're missing something fundamental.
by slycrel , Wednesday, September 16, 2015, 13:57 (3453 days ago) @ Cody Miller
At first glance I felt the same way. I mean, I play 2-3 days a week. For the first couple of months, the daily is the new nightfall.
But then I realized that marks, just like in days past, will become less and less useful as we progress. We just want a ton now so we can "quickly" level up and be at "end game" content by Friday so we can do the raid. I think it can be played that way, but wasn't designed to.
Bungie took the concept of etheric light, which is pretty darn good, and turned it into currency. This has a number of benefits, some for them, some for you.
* It gives you a reason to play more often
- This keeps your interest for longer
- This keeps the world more populated.
- It makes it much more likely you won't wander away before the next expansion.
* It keeps currency account-wide. This encourages you to play what character you want when, rather than "forcing" you to play on your best character more often. Yes, it doesn't completely solve that, but it's one less barrier here.
* It keeps things fresh, reminding you of the cool content they have, rather than focusing on what isn't there.
There's likely more here, but I have to work.
I watched a bunch of us rush to 34 after HoW came out, at the expense of some enjoyment. Pushing for tons and tons of marks too fast feels like it's in the same direction -- the end justify the means, rather than enjoying the journey. I think a great game is all about enjoying the journey to the end. Gearing up is great, but doesn't have to be everything, and arguably shouldn't be. Otherwise this really is just a big skinner box to take your money rather than a shared experience that becomes a win-win for everyone.
