People say the game has changed in some kind of fundamental way, but they're just wrong. TTK polishes the interface and how you interact with the missions, plus adds some story, but the game is still the same game it always was.

I think NOW people are starting to get it.

Or they don't understand that the grind to 290+ is just as rough as the grind to level 26(?).

No way man! I have only done quests, and I am at 289. This is miles better than having to do random activities with little guidance to get to 29.

Same here (though only 269), plus some Strikes. I even LIKE the new Cryptarch "meta", because at least there's some (some) strategy in the RNG decryption now.

Yes absolutely. This is what they got right in a big way. In fact, the story quests top out at 270, and lead you directly to the raid, both in terms of story and in terms of gear. 26 in Destiny was nightmarish, in part because there was no new content to do after defeating the heart. It was the same shit over and over.

I have done exactly zero grind to reach 291. 310 might be a different story…

I think you're right to a degree, but the gameplay is better, too. More varied, with more interesting encounters.

You are right.

I'm likely forgetting how hard it was to get to 26. 300 light looks to be the real grind.

You're probably right. I'll reevaluate my opinion when I play through it again on my second character. The colony ship mission and Phobos strike me as totally different from other stuff in the game.

The quests kind of force the grind. Here, do 5 strikes. Now do 5 more. Now do the nightfall. Now go to Venus and wait until a public event happens and do this.

Instead of front loading the missions, they spread them out amongst the grind.

You're right that it is much easier though.

Actually, I think now Bungie is starting to get it. They've seen what we liked most about Destiny 1.0 and added way more of that to TTK. Everything has been adjusted to follow plots and stories and deliver challenges which are not simply "kill the mans." I am way more excited to get a drop that starts a quest that gives me a gun than I am to just get a gun. I have way more fun encountering bosses that have interesting mechanics instead of just being giant bullet sponges. And I have way more fun figuring out all of these relatively optional puzzles in the dreadnaught than I do in just a standard patrol elsewhere.

The core game is the same, but the design philosophy behind both the mission structure and loot / reward systems has fundamentally changed, all for the better.

It's not perfect yet, but it is a dramatic improvement over the initial launch of the game and has profoundly increased my overall enjoyment of the gameplay experience. I used to say that Destiny was 80% work for 20% fun, but since I got TTK it has been 100% fun, without exaggeration. I'm LOVING it.

I think they finally get it.

I agree. I've done primarily quests, story-line, a few strikes (for pleasure), and patrol of the dread-naught (primarily exploration), and I'm closing in on 280.

So not much grind, and a ton of good content. Maybe too much? I can't stop playing, my eyes are melting, and the raid is tonight. Someone help me....

This is pretty accurate. I am wondering though how the end-end game will play out, with things like Trials of Osiris, the Heroic raid, and other stuff. I am not a huge fan of the new light system (It takes us back to old problems), but it might not be as bad as I think. I simply hope that there are no 310 activities, or if there are that being 300ish is good enough.

Taken King may be a game where you aren't supposed to actually be able to get to max light level.

It appears that some gear does decrypt at 310 if you are 300
