Question about 3 of Coins (Destiny)

How exactly are people using these to farm? I tried the Draksis trick: only got 1 engram out of 8 kills, and that was only because I stacked 6 of the 3 of coins on my final attempt. Hardly seems worth the trouble :-/

Are people stacking them? If so, how many?
