Nightfall is basically not worth running now (Destiny)
Nightfall doesn't give top tier rewards anymore. There's really little point in running it unless you want the challenge. If you get a legendary, it's too low to matter. If you get an exotic? It's only 290. My engram exotics are 310. So should the nightfalls be also.
There is basically no way to progress past 300 unless you are infusing with raid weapons / armor. It's kind of back to the old problem of needing raid drops to level up…

What do you have against challenge?

I wouldn't go that far

First of all, I've gotten several Blue engram weapons with level 300 stats.
2nd, I'm not sure progressing past 300 really matters all that much, except perhaps for the hard mode raid.

Your engrams are 310?
Da fuck? My engrams only ever pop out as 290. Only engrams that go over that are blues. Highest blue I've got was 298. What's really awesome is when the damn things infuse to one less level even when the gear was less than 10 levels away. Not.
Well, there is the exotic sword that craps out at 310, but I worked for that shit. Really worked for it. Which is why I won't infuse it to make another heavy better. Because I also know it will only end up bumping whatever up to 309 or some nonsense.
Anyway, I'm sure the ToO and IB gear will be raid level too.

At least you got an exotic! I just got 13 strange coins or something.
That nightfall was super tough. There's barely any cover and I haven't memorized which areas electrocute me yet.
Edit: I mainly wanted to run it so I could finish up that strikes questline.

Agreed. I'd imagine the attack/defence difference between 300 and 310 will be fairly marginal.

I understand your point, and I agree. If you don't have raid drops, you're basically level 28 at most with Queens Wrath v1 guns.
But that's fine. I'm just taking it slow. We'll get raid guns and infuse our nightfall guns later.

13 strange coins at least translates into an exotic from 3 of coins (and almost a second buy of 3 of coins). I got a friggin' rune for court of oryx level 3.

Why do you need 310 light again?
Is there some secret activity I'm unaware of that requires more than 290 light?
Here's all I can think of:
- Hardmode Raid. First, you should be required to do normal mode raid for this. Second, hardmode will likely have 320 gear, making you even more upset about nightfalls. Third, nightfall never (ever) gave us gear that was as good as raid gear.
- Iron Banner and Trials. While I dislike Bungie's approach that PvE raid gear should be the best gear for PvP events, it is consistent with their history and should in no way surprise you. Although now that I think about it, we have absolutely no idea if Iron Banner and Trials still work the same as in 1.0. We don't know what light level the reward gear from them will be. So I urge patience and restraint until we do.
... And that's it. There are not even light 300 missions as far as I'm aware, let alone light 310. Pretty sure you can relax, as light 290 is enough for everything currently available in the game.

The Weekly Heroic, Of Course.
Well, I'd probably need some for even the Weekly Heroic. I ran a 272 with two others--it was TERRIBLE. It felt like in the old days, when we were three levels below the enemies, and all our weapons weren't doing anything. We were getting killed in only 1 or 2 shots, our weapons were almost entirely ineffective--by the time we got Tanniks' Walker down to a tiny sliver and ALL THREE of us managed to freaking die, and had to wipe, I was practically begging for Skolas.

I mean, you're right for now and I'm not stressing too hard. I'm not in a rush nor do I actually think I can hit it yet. It's just that in a game based on progression it would be nice to have the progression happen steadily, as it did up until this point. Maybe it is just the nightfall being redefined as no longer being an endgame activity, but that was not really stated or hinted at. The rewards are simply low tier.

I mean, if you don't count the 3 of coins, Nightfall is still one of the only ways to get most of the exotics.
