I hate Fear's Embrace *spoilers* (Destiny)

I can't do it, guys... I just can't. I've tried this boss battle ten times now and I can't solo it, even though I'm way overleveled for it. I get overwhelmed by ads AND Taken floaty 'sploders AND Cabal flame jets before I can even get a second volley of rockets into the Echo. Am I doing something wrong? If I had to get a Fireteam together in the builder for a regular story mission, I would never be able to look in the mirror again...

Took me awhile to figure it out.

Stay in the entrance/tunnel you respawn in, then use Red Death to make sure you can get health back by killing adds when they show up in front of your tunnel. Once I tried that it was pretty easy.

Almost impossible solo. No shame at all FTBing it.

Defender might be able to solo it, through incredibly boring playstyle. Do not recommend. A single fireteam member is enough to make it entirely doable, though.

Maybe I just got lucky . . .

. . . but I didn't seem to have a whole lot of trouble with it.
Xenos nailed it with his suggestion. When you die, you'll respawn in a little alcove with a direct line on the Echo. A decent impact Sniper (I used my Hereafter) will take care of him pretty quickly. The adds can be a problem if they swarm your little hidey hole, but a decent grenade and a good super takes care of them for long enough to finish off the Echo.

Almost impossible solo. No shame at all FTBing it.

God-hood bores you? I see how it is. :P

I soloed it with my Nightstalker. Dual smoke grenades really helped. I just kept a steady cloud of poison gas in front of the door and shotgunned anything that wandered into it.

Tough, but doable.

Took me 6 or 7 tries, but I managed to solo it a few days ago. The recommended light level is misleading (I think it's 260... it was a serious challenge at 295). As Xenos said, the entrance doorway provides some decent cover. I found it helped to be proactive in taking out all the adds first, then hitting the boss. If you're really stuck, putting a fireteam together makes a huge difference. Marmot was running it last night, and I jumped in just to help with the boss. Finished it off on the first try. Maybe try using the fireteam builder?

Tough, but doable.

That's what I was doing, with one minor variation. As a Nightstalker, I saved up my super, triggered the boss fight, and then wailed on him with super and rockets before retreating to the alcove. But since he doesn't move much, maybe the better route is to save the super for adds and just retreat to the alcove immediately.
If that doesn't work, FTB it is.

I did it as a nightstalker as well, using the same method you described. Except I used a machine gun instead of rockets, because I he moves a bit and I didn't have anything with tracking at the time.
Cheapley's suggestion of using a sniper is a good idea too. You'll just want to make sure you finish him off quickly, because without a shotgun you'll be vulnerable to the adds creeping your way.

Had me muttering impolite things about Zavala, too.

Just stand still...

I had the same problem. Finally Googled it and found this; https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/3ljzrj/sga_fears_embrace_solo_simply_stand_still/
So I tried it and made it through on the first attempt.
