Bam:
Available at the Vanguard Quartermaster.
This baby is the closest thing to the Messenger that I've found in year 2, once you spec it out for max stability. This gun has nasty recoil (your shots drag up and to the left) unless you equip the hand-laid stock perk, which brings the recoil into a straight vertical climb; perfect for the Headseeker perk.
Like the messenger, it has high impact/low rate of fire, making it a beast at mid-long range. I think it'll do a 2-shot kill (haven't pulled it off yet, but I got several targets down to a thread of health after 2 shots with 1 or 2 bullets missing). Pulse rifles of this archetype are a bit weaker at close range, but a) that's what shotguns are for, and b) this one has full-auto which helps a bit.
So if you're a fan of the messenger and you're looking for a suitable replacement, I'd absolutely recommend dropping 150 marks on this beauty. I'm suddenly less nervous about Trials 2.0 ;)

Is it the same rate of fire / impact as Fair and Square / Three Little Words?

I've never used either of those, but my understanding is that both of those guns have slightly higher RoF but lower impact, making them both 3-shot kills at best. Personally, I prefer a slightly lower RoF with a 2-shot kill because it's easier to hit 2 headshots in a row than 3 in a row, especially since the slower RoF gives you that split second to adjust your aim.

The Destiny app seems to show Apple of Discord as having a slightly higher rate of fire but about half the impact of my Three Little Words. On the past Three Little Words was good for two shot kills. I'm not sure Apple of Discord will be. Maybe if head seeker procs just right and you land all the shots...
Still, the high stability and automatic fire does seem promising. I would like to get back around to pulse rifles eventually. Thanks for the tip. :)
Each bullet is 25 damage (or so I'm told)

And it fires 4. So technically a 2-shot if you get all headshots, which is harder to do with a Hakke.
EDIT: Wait, am I thinking of the right gun?

Want. Thanks, Cruel!

Had that drop for me early and loved it; great pulse rifle if you use the stock. Only stopped using it when I got Hakke's Lyudmila-D from Banshee; the loss in Headhunter is made up by higher impact and longer range.
-- Steve still has a copy in the Vault; maybe he can Infuse it later when Marks aren't quite so tight.

Higher impact and longer range? Ooooh baby, I've gotta try that :)
I've actually had an Apple of Discord for almost 2 weeks now (got one as a random drop) but it didn't have the same stability perks as the vendor version, which really hurt its effectiveness. I just stumbled across the vendor version this morning, and was pleasantly surprised :)

The downsides are no auto fire and no Headhunter perk. Still it's the accurate, long-range pulse rifle I've been looking for ever since Loose Change was made irrelevant by the Year 2 Light system.
-- Steve's random drop of Apple did include the stability option, which made it terrifying back when Light 250 wasn't too much of a burden.
Will have to spend the parts
by TheeChaos , Monday, September 28, 2015, 13:34 (3440 days ago) @ CruelLEGACEY
I have been trying to stockpile my weapon parts back up. I have one from the end of the questline, which has feeding Frenzy. I have found that Full auto on the slower ROF ones do more bad than good for me.
I am excited for Armsday. I didnt place my orders in time for the first one, so i have 3 coming my way this week. so much excitement.

I had AoD. Was not impressed at all... *Vid*

Shoots slower than messenger, and the fourth shot actually decreases your fire rate while not having the same TTK as the Messenger. Has a great cracking sound, and I maxed it out in the hopes that the perks would improve my experience with it, but no dice.
After lots of frustration, I sharded it for the Marks.
Here's a game where I played around with it, but ended up just using the Space Glock:

Sounds like you didn't have a great roll. That "4th bullet" perk doesn't seem helpful to me at all. The vendor version is fantastic, though.

I had the one that the Vanguard gives you for free. I updated my initial post with a video of it.

Yeah that's where I got my first one, wasn't crazy about it either. It had headseeker, but nothing to help with stability. Basically I had to hit someone in their left shoulder for Headseeker to be of any use. But the vendor version I bought today is way better. Really happy with it so far.

Hakke pulse rifles fire a fourth bullet by default.

I got a Spare Change drop from the crucible that I've been pretty happy with:
Red Dot OAS (aim assist)
Partial Refund (meh)
Braced Frame (Max Stability)
Third Eye (ADS Radar)
The recoil still has a slight right-to-left track, but the grouping is tight due to the stability. It's got the same impact and ROF as Messenger, a higher range, but a smaller magazine.
Now the real question - does anyone know how this compares?

I've got a HoW Spare Change that I rerolled for Headseeker and max stability... it is fantastic. Almost identical to the Messenger, as you pointed out. I've been hoping to get a year 2 version to drop as well.

That's a nice roll right there.

Might I suggest: Lyudmila-D, from Armsday Packages
by Kahzgul, Monday, September 28, 2015, 17:02 (3440 days ago) @ CruelLEGACEY
Here's the exact one I got:
It's a very hard-hitting gun with a 4 round burst. Extremely effective at long ranges. The 36 round mag means you get 9 full bursts (3 solo kills) per reload, which is great. With the highest stability the roll on this gun offers, you can get two body shots and two headshots per burst, making 2 burst kills possible, if very hard to pull off.
I *love* it paired with my shotgun.
Also, looking at the other options (thermal scope, threat assessment scope, crowd control, zen moment, etc..) I believe an insane roll is possible, so I'll be buying it whenever I can from the armsday package options. Just 2500 glimmer!

Thoughts on AoD
by BeardFade , Portland, OR, Monday, September 28, 2015, 17:17 (3440 days ago) @ CruelLEGACEY
It hasn't been my favorite gun, but I get the idea that I'm not as accurate a shooter as you are. I have noticed that it can be almost a 2 shot kill (and on occasion I think it is a 2-shot kill).
I think I got a pretty excellent roll: Headseeker, Feeding Frenzy, and Fitted Stock. I'm just not that great with pulse rifles in PvP and it is somewhat slow to fire. You can't miss or you'll be done for.
That being said, I'm reading some of the tips here and will try them out. I'm not giving up on the gun just yet.

I've been using the AoD that I got as a drop, its not bad. Does pull a little like you said. I may have to get the Vanguard version if its so much more stable as you said.
I've found that I like the next RoF class down. Originally I was rocking my Time on Target, but not I have a Hacksaw Suros with stability perks and rangefinder that has 30 rounds. That's 10 full trigger pulls. I find the faster Rof is more forgiving for those of us who miss a few shots that the slower RoF's. Also I have a tendency to spray in nervous situations so it works better then too.
I've got the Hakke Herja-D on order. I'm hoping to get one with a good stability upgrade and headseeker. Looks like a good fit for my playstyle.
