Pro-tip: Nightstalkers rule! *Raid SP* (Destiny)

by cheapLEY @, Wednesday, September 30, 2015, 01:43 (3439 days ago)

During our first time through the Raid, we barely pulled off killing the Warpriest, even after understanding all the mechanics at play. We just couldn't do enough DPS.

We were four Warlocks and two Titans.

We played through that encounter again tonight (Thanks, squid! You saved us by filling up our fireteam!). This time we had two Hunters in the mix.

Hitting the Warpriest with the Nightstalker ability, and all damage counting as precision damage . . . it's almost not even fair. It trivializes that entire encounter. We burned him in three damage dealing rounds, and could have done it in two, but our Hunter missed his shot during the second round.

So long story short: always have a Nightstalker in your Fireteam.

Meaning, regular precision shots while the target is tethered do even MORE damage. Aim for the head!

I'll have to keep that in mind next time. It wasn't explained to me correctly, then. I haven't played with my Hunter yet, so I haven't looked at it too closely.

That makes it even more intense, then. I wonder if you could kill him in one round.

You have to stagger tetherings since the damage buff doesn't stack, but yeah, it's pretty amazing. I was doing 70k+ damage on golgoroth earlier tonight per crit shot with my sniper,

only 70k?

I was doing 90k+ with my Black Spindle and Weapons of Light plus illuminated :)

131k here

Weapons of Light + Melting Point.

Not many bosses you can reliably use amelting Ppint on, but Golgoroth is one.

If you can co-ordinate a Tether, Melting Point and WoL he just melts.

It wasn't explained to me correctly, then.

Apparently I didn't understand it correctly. I was just blindly believing the yellow numbers! It worked anyway. Next time, 2 rounds at most.

Oh, I'm not blaming you! It is deceptive with the yellow numbers. But without the yellow numbers, I'm not sure how they indicate you're doing more damage than normal.

Maybe their larger? :)

I didn't notice them either.

Heh.

Ideally I think they could just let the actual numbers speak for themselves, but I honestly just tune out the damage numbers most of the time. I seriously don't even see them or recognize them as numbers.

It's hard to miss when they're all bright yellow, though, even when not hitting a precision damage area.

An Even PRO-er Pro tip

by TheeChaos @, Wednesday, September 30, 2015, 09:27 (3438 days ago) @ cheapLEY

Don't tether the Deathsingers. Yes you do the modified damage, but they cover their faces. We found that we were actually doing less damage by not hitting them in the face. Use your Tethers/supers for the adds after the aura buff has gone away.

You're talking about parts of the raid not all of us have gotten to yet.

It's not possible for everyone to keep up with where everyone else is at in the Raid. If it has Raid SP in the title, I figure it's all fair game.

I appreciate the thought. Saw it before your warning. But I watched you guys do that part on twitch, so no big deal for me.

Oryx is the only real thing I'm still trying to avoid spoilers on. :)

The ability is very much corcumstantial due to its short range, but Melting Point gives you a ~40% damage increase. Stack it with Weapons of Light or a Nightstalker tether for a ~80% boost, or all three for more than double damage!
