What did you have before?
I have a pair of Astro A50s that seem like they're holding up well (only had them for a few months). My old A40s lasted for years, though. They broke when I tripped and stepped on them. ):
I can't really recommend the A50s though. They sound amazing, but it has nothing but issues when actually using the mic. It causes a very noticeable echo for everyone in the party (except for me!). I've tried every solution I've seen and nothing has fixed it.
So, really, this is a waste of a post, other than to say don't get A50s if that was even a consideration for you.
I'm not sure about durability, but I've heard nothing but good things about the official Xbox Stereo headset with mic. Apparently it's a good piece of equipment for the price.

Weird. I hadn't actually heard of this. I've had my A50s since about a year before the Xbone launched and haven't had anyone mention an echo. Was I echoing during the raid last week?

I don't know, I took your spot. :P
I don't think so, though, because everyone immediately mentioned it when I joined, and it's been a problem throughout our party's entire Raid.
A Google search shows that it's at least relatively common. I updated the firmware for the headset and the mixamp, and switched from the A50 mic cable to the Xbox Chat adapter (The mic cable seems to be the cause of some problems), but no dice. I'm going to have to bite the bullet and send my equipment to Astro to get looked at, I think.
I love the headset overall. It's extremely comfortable over long periods and sounds absolutely fantastic. I just can't use it when I'm in a party, and that sucks.
Also, I just reread your post, and I think most of the problems come form having the "Xbox One" version of the A50, which aren't any different, except for the mic cable and adapter, which seems to be the issue for most. Replacing it usually fixes the problem, but it didn't for me.

I know I didn't get to run with you for the Oryx kill, but I was wondering about the chunk of the raid that we did play together before that :)

That is kind of what I was thinking/hoping; that it's a problem is with the new version that doesn't exist with the older ones. I'm hoping it's not a case where it's been bugging people, but no one wanted to say anything.

I have the new ones (bought during PAX this year), and apparently don't have the problem. (According to the people I play with, anyway.)

Damn, I forgot we did Deathsingers the previous night. Our Raid party was such a mish-mash of random folks, I've forgotten everyone I played with!

I doubt it, unless you just play with entirely nicer folks than I do. Everyone I've played with has mentioned it pretty much immediately, although most of the time they have reported that it's really not that bad, just a slight, faint echo of their voices. I can't hear any echo when they mention it, usually.
I know it's my headset, because switching to the standard chat headset fixes it, as does simply muting the mic on my A50s. I've put in a support case with Astro, we'll see what they say. Probably to send it in, judging from some of the forum posts on their site.
I use the GAME ONE black. Love it.

Had a Turtle Beach back on the xbox 360, it did not last for me, and I take care of my sh!t. (Still have a working original iPod from 2001).
I use this:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=1062932&gclid=CJ2H2N2CuMgCFU0YHwod774HoA&is=REG&am...
The plus is that these will work on PC/Mac/Xbox One/PS4. Super comfortable, excellent sound. Volume knob control right on the headset. Flip up the boom mic, it automatically mutes the mic. Great for when you need a break and don't want to blast the eardrums of your team when scraping the mic across the table. :P Cable is a nice braided non-tangle cord. Also no other power required. Plugs into your wireless controller, and you're done.
Downside, you need two plugs not included.
One is the Xbox one Mic adapter: (unless you have it already)
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/accessories/headsets/stereo-headset-adapter
The other is a cable:
http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-PCV-05-Combo-Adapter/dp/B00IM36VU0
This was the best and most flexible solution for me because it gives you several options, it is extremely comfortable, you can wear it for 9+ hours and not even feel it, Non-sweat ear-pads, the list goes on and on.
Hope this helps and you find something to your liking!
I use the GAME ONE black. Love it.

While I don't have that particular headset, I can confirm that Sennheiser makes excellent products and are extremely durable.
I have a set of HD 280 pros and HD 380s pros, and they've held up through very frequent use for years. The 280s were my "travel" set of cans when I was in the military, so they held up through frequent abuse, being shoved into backpacks or travel bags, being dropped, etc, and other than being scuffed in some places, are still working and as comfortable as the day I bought them.
I use the GAME ONE black. Love it.

I also use Sennheisers, just an older PC 350 SE I found for 120$ on amazon when they went discontinued and there was a bit of a selloff. Their brand quality is high and the price is not horrible in comparison to other brands. If you go the route of a Sennheiser, purchase the PCV 05 two to one adapter linked in Blackstar's post. Off brand ones, depending on the manufacturer, may not work at all and this is noted with online reviews I had read. I believe it is more related to build quality.
Cheap Headset option

If you have a new controller with the 3.5 jack in the bottom, get some earbuds with a mic. Not Iphone compatible though, they won't work. Any other phone compatability will. Whatever style is most comfortable for you.
I went with the Ifrogz from walmart in Pink cuz its light red basically. Only 20 bones so you aren't out alot of money.
If you don't have the new controller, then you'll need the adapter which is about 25. All together you'll only have about $50 invested w/tax. The sound quality is good, I find them more comfortable than some padded overear headsets, and pretty durable. I also like that I don't have a mic in my face and it doesn't leave that dip in my hair :)
