I got home from work and booted up Destiny. It went to the PS4 "Application Update" page, but it just said "Downloading update file..." with no other information at all. No percentages, no gigs, no timeline, nothing.

I checked the PS4 network tab and it had a signal. I rebooted Destiny and rebooted the PS4, still getting the same thing.

Did this happen to anyone else? Kind of lame...

It just spontaneously shot to 17.63 / 18.121 GB with 17 minutes left.

Hopefully Bungie fixes this, but the way they do the updates for Destiny, the PS4 has to go through every bit of the existing update before it starts downloading the new one. Unless they change the 18 gig patch to count as content (or switch some things up on their side), it will always take about 20 minutes to "prepare" the new update.

Once it starts downloading, if it says it will take more than a few minutes, go to Network settings and "Test Internet Connection". That should bring the estimated download time to a few minutes.

Yeah. It's kind of weird that it doesn't tell you that it's preparing to update. You can back out, go to the "Notifications" tab on top of the Guide, and check it out under "Downloads". It'll tell you how far along the prep is.
Destiny's the only game that has this issue, it seems.

I'm one of the "lucky" ones who has to wait for the entire 18GB to re-download before getting a 500MB update. I have crappy internet, so this takes 2 days. Beyond irritating.
