Well...Starting Over. (Off-Topic)

by Morpheus @, High Charity, Thursday, October 15, 2015, 16:01 (3330 days ago)

I refreshed my computer, and everything seems to work okay now. I just have to recover what I can. It's been a while though, so there are a lot of shortcuts that I need to re-learn, if anybody can help. Couple of things:

  • My keyboard has a hot button shortcut on it that opened up a new Windows Explorer window each time it was pressed. Since refreshing, that no longer happens. How can I put that back on?
  • When deleting files from my computer, sending them to the recycle bin; there used to be a prompt for confirmation(Are you sure, etc...)--that no longer shows. The files still go to the Recycle Bin, but it's a 1-click thing.
  • I'm on Firefox and I managed to find my old folder with all my stuff on it--anybody know how I can transfer that back over?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

For the hotkey, I don't know. It's probably a keyboard setting in Control Panel.

For the deletion thing, you right-click the Recycle Bin, click Properties, and check "Display delete confirmation dialog".

For the Firefox thing, it depends what kind of stuff you're talking about. If it's bookmarks, there's an import function that will probably work. If it's plugins, I don't know, but you should be able to just Google "restore Firefox plugins from folder" and follow what it says. If it's something else, Google or some help site can probably help you.

I'm really curious, what do you mean by "I refreshed my computer"?

Sometimes media keys need special drivers. That may be causing your keyboard problems. That said, win+e opens explorer.

I think, and I can't check this right now, if you right click on Recycle bin, there is a "delete confirmation dialog" checkbox.

I don't use Firefox, and have no idea how it works. I used Opera until they RUINED IT after version 12, and just use internet explorer now. It's good.

This is correct. Right-click on Recycle Bin -> Properties -> "Display delete confirmation dialog"

For the firefox backup, here's is an official guide for moving your profile or just parts of it

If you have the entire profile folder you can try and restore it via the instructions here.
