What are your current favorite guns? (Destiny)

TTK has been out for a while now, most of us have probably cleared the raid, we've had an iron banner... So it's time to find out what our personal preferences are for PvE and PvP weapons. Please post your favorites and why!

I'll start us off:

PvP:
Primary: Spare Change .25. Without Counterweight I don't think this gun would even be usable, but with it (and Perfect Balance and Army of One) this gun is *amazing*. Unfortunately, it's only available as a random drop from the Crucible, so you can't control whether you get one or not. I'm also leveling up a Nirwen's Mercy that I bought from Lord Salad, but I don't think it will outperform my solid Spare Change.

Secondary: The Chaperone. If it was in a vacuum, I'd prefer the Conspiracy Theory-D, but since the chaperone's buff also applies to your other weapons, it makes my spare change even more of a laser than it already was, and I'm willing to take the small hit to shotgun damage as a result. Plus I love the animation when I switch to it! This may fully change, however, since I just got an amazing shotgun from armsday. Veeeeeery intriguing roll.

Heavy: Qullim's Terminus and it's not remotely close. I got 10 (TEN) kills with it in Rumble last night without reloading. Sure a couple of those guys were banged up when I found them, but I don't care at all - no other HMG delivers the hurt like this monster, plus you never have to spend any time reloading your HMG again.

PvE:
Primary: This is part of why I made this thread... I got nothin'. I just haven't found a gun that I truly love for PvE. I like the Eyasluna, but it doesn't hold enough spare ammo. Ace of Spades is pretty cool, but takes up my exotic slot and falls down on boss fights. Jade Rabbit is functional, but not fun. Touch of Malice is fun, but dangerous to use. Hawkmoon seems to miss what should have been a perfect shot just as often as it gets a magic bullet proc for bonus damage. And so forth. Just for comfort reasons I've been running with my Spare Change .25, but ... I get bored. I'm excited for the autorifle I got from armsday today... That buzzsaw may become my new go-to, but I'm not totally sold yet. To be totally honest, I haven't purchased a Hung Jury yet, but I fully plan on doing so. It'll probably be the gun I end up using, just because I looooooove firefly.

Secondary: Depending on what I'm doing, I'll either use the Chaperone (solar), the Conspiracy Theory-D (arc) or the Omolon Eirene RR4 sniper rifle (void). I also have a Telesto which is pretty useful in a variety of situations, but the delayed explosion is not quite as satisfying as the instant gratification of the well-placed blast from the ol' Chappy.

Heavy: Qullim's Terminus is a beast. I honestly don't know why I bother carrying anything else, including my exotic sword. Oh well.

I just picked up a Hung Jury, which is preventing me from moving forward with that cool FWC "No Time To Explain" quest until next week. Ugh. I should have just picked up an exotic like the Monte Carlo or Red Death.

For what it's worth, Hung Jury is the only new weapon I'm really in love with. I've always been a fan of Scout Rifles with Firefly; leaving behind my ANitC, Badger, and Ghelion's Demise (all w/ firefly & outlaw) has been tough. Not to mention my NL Shadow with firefly, explosive rounds, and full auto. But HJ sits sits right up there with all my old favorites. It handles beautifully, has nice sights, and decent impact. The rate of fire is high enough that you can get tripple tap to proc even if you miss a shot or two between precision hits. I routinely stretch the 17-round clip out to 20 or 21 shots before reloading.

Most importantly, it looks awesome :D

I just finished leveling up my Hung Jury.

I'm undecided. I do really love it (and it's beautiful). Firefly is always nice.

But I really love my Suros dis-43. It's got almost the exact same base stats (same impact and RoF, slightly more range, slightly less stability), but it also has Extended Mag, which takes the already deep 19 round mag up to a 23 round mag. I can fire that thing for days without reloading.

I've migrated that over to my Hunter that I'm trying to level up, so the Hung Jury is my primary on my primary character now.

As for the thread, there definitely isn't anything I love as much as Fatebringer yet. And I still miss my full auto Salvation State scout rifle.

Overall, though, I think the weapons are a lot more diverse and interesting. I'm always excited to try a new weapon because they all handle so much differently from each other.

Doesn't Hung Jury also have Extended Mag? Brings it up to 20, or 29 with Triple Tap.

Not that I'm aware of, but maybe I'm just dumb and missed it. I only really started using it last night, and I didn't look at it for that long. In fact, I leveled it fully with motes and just selected stuff at random because a firefight broke out and I was being shot at. Then I just sort of forgot . . .

I expect I'll be very happy w/ my Hung Jury. I usually run Dead Orbit, I should have swapped long ago... so I'd be free to betray them to FWC for this quest (and feel oh so dirty in the process, my Titan is DO, Hunter is FWC).

I've been kind of cool on TTK, honestly, in some ways it hasn't kind of walloped me as much as the original destiny did. I think a big part of this is the lack of guns that I've gotten really attached to. In Vanilla Destiny I received a one/One synthestate early on with outlaw, braced frame/ exploding rounds, and LiTC. I could roll it either as a stunn lock machine with explosive rounds, or could focus on masssive percision damage to adds. It was the first legendary I recieved, and It was my go to in all of PVE.

I haven't found a gun that connected with me in nearly the same way (I guess I need to try that hung jury).

PvP: Bad Juju, Silence of Aarn, Sword. I'm running a Defender so lots of bubbles plus no backup plans and a shotty that auto reloads work great together. I also have a Nirwens with Army of One and good stability that works well with this combo too. Swords and bubbles too.

PvE: Hung Jury, Black Spindle, and Sword. Again with a defender using the perk where heavy ammo kills can create orbs, the sword is great. When I run out of ammo in heavy, Hung Jury finishes mobs quick, and Black Spindle takes out bosses fast.

However, I don't like most of the new weapons. Of all the versions of Destiny, the HoW weapons are my favorite, maybe because I reforged them into beasts. My Hopscotch and Allfate are my best crucible weapons hands down. Party crasher is still a beast. Ash factory is a hell of a rocket launcher.

Primary: NTTE
Secondary: Some Hakke bullshit with surplus, or Eirene RR4 with the low zoom scope.
Heavy: Raid machine gun.

Now, here're the reasons.

NTTE: you get free ammo back.
Hakke thing: surplus gives me more ammo.
Raid machine gun: has extended mag for more ammo.

in PvP I've not found a favorite secondary. I usually use the raid shotty as mine is 310, though I have a new party crasher that's ok. I haven't found the perfect fusion rifle yet, but I still hope for one that fits my playstyle. I agree re: quillim's terminus, it's my default heavy at all times. For a primary everything gets measured against y2 red death and red death consistently wins. I don't have a Y2 spare change tho.

In PvE I'm using a Last Extremity most of the time. For a long while I used lightweight with it, but I've recently switched to casket mag, giving it 16 rounds. The stability drawback is mostly countered by the aim assist, which is a lot like my good old A.1-F19x-RYL. I sometimes use the raid hand cannon, usually with close range vs taken, otherwise it's the LE scout. I've tried (twice) to use the hung jury and I keep going back to the last extremity scout rifle. It just doesn't quite hit hard enough for the speed I gain with the hung jury. Last week I got a Cocytus SR4 that has near identical stats (life support, casket mag for 17 rounds, zen moment) that I need to give a good rundown on, but I've moved that onto my titan who hasn't gotten much playtime this week.

Most of the time I'm using the raid shotty and raid HMG I suppose for both PvP and PvE. I feel like I've not found a great groove with the new weapons overall. They all have their obvious downsides, nothing I can just use and enjoy in most situations. I think that's by design.

I feel like Hereafter is one of those weird Exotics that you don't really pick for its Exotic perk. It's like Invective (pre-ammo-nerf) or MIDA Multitool in that it's just a gun with very good stats. I mean sure, you might move a bit faster or occasionally blind someone, but that's not why you're using it.

Hereafter is a great mid-point between high- and low-RoF Snipers, with enough Impact to clean up weakened enemies but a high RoF if you need to go for the double tap. It's got great range and Aim Assist, as well as (I think) an awesome scope, and it comes with Snapshot as standard. There's nothing particularly special about it, but it just feels really nice to use.

Plus it totally sounds like one of these:

Jabbehakke-D is important for another reason.

by Funkmon @, Wednesday, October 21, 2015, 22:36 (3416 days ago) @ breitzen

It says how it should be pronounced.

I don't think we can trust the diaresis in Häkke to be a German style umlaut. In German, it would be pronounced like hecku...but it also wouldn't be spelled that way. The word is in German as hacken, which means to hack. I am told it also means drunk, but I've never heard it used like that. The double k signals to me that it's probably Norwegian or Dutch.

Dutch sounds plausible, but it doesn't fit. Dutch doesn't do umlauts, but it does to diareses. We cannot have a diaresis on the a though since it doesn't distinguish it from a digraph. For those with lives, a diaresis is a thing that lets you know the next vowel is pronounced as a new syllable. Naïve, Chloë, things like that. Dutch does use them, but it would be meaningless. It would be like "Nïve." What's to change? Nothing.

So, on a single letter, it must be a type of umlaut. The umlaut is a sound change that uses the same dots as a diaresis. This must be a non standard pronunciation.

So, I thought about Luxembourgish, but hacken is the same as in German.

Norwegian doesn't have this as an umlaut. Norwegian DOES have hakken, which is the translation of hacken, so that works, but it doesn't use the diaresis. It does use an ash, which can be transliterated to an ä or even ae. Ash in Norwegian is pronounced like ash in English, like the a in cat. So it would be hackuh.

So, in my limited language knowledge, Häkke has no equivalent, though the best bet would be Norwegian hackuh. I don't, on the other hand, have any faith that Bungie did anything more than add a heavy metal umlaut or throw it in as some kind of Häagen-Dazs style hyperforeignism.

As a result, the gun Jabberhakke is the only reasonable guide we have to the pronunciation of Häkke. It's clearly meant to rhyme with Jabberwocky.

So, Häkke is pronounce "hockey."

Or it's not

by someotherguy, Hertfordshire, England, Thursday, October 22, 2015, 00:01 (3416 days ago) @ Funkmon

And it's just close enough that it made some dev somewhere smile.

Avatar

Or it's not

by Funkmon @, Thursday, October 22, 2015, 01:25 (3416 days ago) @ someotherguy

The problem is that there is no real pronunciation indicator in the word. It probably isn't Norwegian, it probably isn't Dutch, it probably isn't German. The only thing we have to go on is the rhyme with Jabberwocky, so, while you're right, it could be pronounced differently, there is only one good indicator.

Thanks to the new No Backup Plans I've transitioned to the Iron Banner pulse rifle (3rd eye, stable, and I don't have to pull the trigger 20+ times before a reload break), a y2 Invective (Infinite ammo for Force Barrier) and I'm looking for a good ranged Legendary heavy. Maybe a rocket launcher with proximity detonation...

My Hunter is using Ace of Spades because it hits good and has The Last Word's draw animation which always adds +1 to my happiness.

I could not dismantle Auto Rifles fast enough with last year's Destiny, but so far I'm really enjoying year 2 Monte Carlo (with no backup plans, shotgun and Defender class) which is funny because I hated it in year 1.

I also have "An answering Chord" that I got as a random drop with focus fire that is surprisingly effective and perfect for me.

I got a pretty cool Patch-A as a reward drop from Dead Orbit that I almost dismantled because I thought the perks were shit at first (battle runner and danger close) but have actually been really helpful in pve and pvp.

Haven't really gotten much else yet. Still hate hand cannons and fusion rifles. Miss the power that HMGs used to have (good bye, 100 round corrective measure)

I hate all the armors this season. The shaders look way better and I like a lot of the concepts but most of it is a miss for me this season.

I played some elimination games with a guy running hammer bro using a patch A with battle runner and (I think) crowd control. He had 85% of all kills in the four full rounds I played with him (one round against, three rounds with). The things he could do with that shotgun were unholy.

PvP:

- Nerwin's Mercy (Salad Roll), Monte Carlo or Hawkmoon
- 1000-Yard Stare
- Blue Maria-MG3 Machine Gun for now.

PvE:
- Hung Jury (Vendor Roll)
- 1000-Yard Stare / Raid Sniper
- Sleeper Simulant / Swords

I'm still trying to dial in my preferred weapons for PvP but I'm really enjoying the Nerwin's Mercy. Same basic stats as the apple of discord, but I'm not a fan of the 4th shot on the Hakke pulse rifles. I still need to get a Villiany and give that a try. I really just want to bring my Messenger to year 2.

the 1000-yard stare is a beast for both PvP and PvE. If it had cocoon for the raid I'd never switch it out.

For the sake of fun and variety, I'm trying to use different guns with different characters/platforms.

Xbox warlock:

As everyone else has said, Hung Jury is great. Also use An Answering Chord and Zhalo Supercell. Just got my Not Like The Others. An embarrassment of riches.

Conspiracy Theory-D and Telesto are my secondaries of choice.

Year 2 Truth and Ruin Wake. Use BTRD-345 for PVP.

PS4 hunter:

The Villiany and the Vanity. Tried to make Apple of Discord my new autorifle, but I think it's going to be displaced by Antipodal Hindsight with Rodeo, Smallbore, and Counterbalance.

Invective, and a fine selection of 1000-Yard Stares.

Still looking for love, heavy-wise. Use an old Defiant Gravity in crucible.

PvP:
Nirwen's Mercy (vendor roll) - It's as close to The Messenger as a Y2 weapon has felt to me. I jumped into the wrong side of a 2v3 Skirmish match the other day and managed to do this in large part thanks to my new Nirwen's Mercy. The one teammate I started with (Thor) was all about running facefirst into the fray so I had 8 kills and at least three revives before my first death. I really wish I could get one with Headseeker, but I'm curious to see how my roll with Secret Round holds up. I'm not expecting much since I didn't get any stability perks on that one.

Silence of A'Arn/1000-Yard Stare - I'm not much of a sniper, but the range on Nirwen's Mercy means I'm usually hanging back away from the action a bit more. I'll switch to the raid shotgun for smaller maps with more twists and turns.

Truth - There's nothing worse than getting heavy ammo and failing to get a kill with it. As long as someone appears on my screen before I die, Truth makes sure that doesn't happen.

PvE(Raid):
Doom of Chelchis - I stick with the raid weapons mostly for cocoon and the Taken damage buff, but this is a pretty solid scout rifle in it's own right. The auto rifle is OK for (VERY minor raid spoils, I guess) Golgoroth add control and the hand cannon is GREAT for infusing your Nirwen's Mercy up to 308! I haven't gotten my hands on the pulse rifle yet, but I'm looking forward to it. Touch of Malice is beastly for (bigger spoils here) hammering the everloving crap out of the Deathsingers and Oryx from the safety of your invincibility bubble!

1000-Yard Stare - It's super high impact and the one I managed to score happened to have bonus Taken damage. Black Spindle is great when crits are easy and reloading is not. I just got the Defiance of Yasmin last night, so we'll see if it's good enough to bump 1000-Yard Stare. Backpack reloading is going to make it pretty tempting.

Qullim's Terminus - It's a machine gun with backpack reloads. Rockets are rarely a good idea so this one's a no-brainer. If it weren't for Touch of Malice's particular role at the end, I might load up my exotic sword to deal with a particular nuisance of a Knight.

I don't have time for much beyond PvP and raiding, so that's all I've got.

Speaking of Golgoroth and weapons, I'm convinced the best combination for someone running his gaze is Red Death/Fusion Rifle. I haven't tried the Red Death thing yet, but in retrospect it's obvious. My 300 light Long Far Gone Fusion rifle is able to drop a puddle orb in 4 shots, so there is plenty of time to drop one and steal back the gaze. That way guys in the pit don't need to worry about the puddle orbs.

I'll do PvE; haven't done serious PvP in a while.

Primary: either Lyudmilla-D or Suros Regime. The former (with stability perks) is a precise, long-ranged, heavy-ish hitting pulse rifle... the Spare Change I had to leave behind when the Year 2 stuff came live. The latter is a great multi-role assault rifle whose bottom-half of the magazine can trigger shield regen, making it very handy on raids.

Secondary: Stillpiercer, a brute of a sniper. Excellent boss-killer that can work against adds quite well (thanks to it refunding your magazine on 4 consecutive precision kills) if you've got steady hands.

Heavy: Either Cosmic Dragon (big, punchy rocket launcher) or a MG whose name escapes me at the moment.

-- Steve can't look up the name of that MG because he can't get to bungie.net on this thing.

Oh boy...

PvP: Who cares? :P

PvE:

Bad Juju: I use this for my Voidwalker pretty much exclusively unless I really need the exotic slot elsewhere. The things you can do with Bad Juju + Obsidian Mind (which I just bought the Y2 version of yesterday, finally) are fantastic.

Apple of Discord: Good backup pulse rifle when I can't use Bad Juju. Mine rolled with Headseeker + Feeding Frenzy + some stability perk, and a longe-range scope, so it's got good reach.

Telesto: Recent acquisition, but I like how it tears up Minotaurs. Those explosions hit hard! Plus it sounds amazing.

Thesan FR4: Great impact, enough to even stagger Minotaurs most of the time. This one gets a lot of use since I can't always spare an exotic slot for Telesto.

Ruin Wake: Since Destiny first came out, my favorite HMG was always Deviant Gravity. Sadly, that got left behind with Y2, but this one's a dead ringer, plus it has 1 more round in the mag. :)

Tlaloc: I don't usually run Scouts on my Warlock, but this thing has served my Sunsinger VERY nicely. It's a solid if unremarkable Scout Rifle in its normal state, but when your super's full the fire rate goes WAY up. I haven't counted frames or anything to compare, but to me it feels like MIDA-level fire rate, and with much higher impact. In short, a monster.

Ace of Spades: I was REALLY looking forward to this thing, because it's the Fatebringer/Devil You Know archetype, which has always been my favorite, and which I hadn't yet found one of in TTK. I just got it yesterday when I was finally able to rank my hunter up to 3 with Banshee (I'd been stockpiling blue hand cannons). Well, I am NOT disappointed. It feels just like TDYK/Fatebringer. It has 2 less rounds in the mag than those guns had in their heyday, but Maverick more than makes up for it in most encounters. It even has Truesight IS (my favorite) as default. I don't think I'll find a hand cannon I like more.

Stillpiercer: I don't know what the general feeling is on this thing, as I don't hear it mentioned much, but it's reasonably high impact (similar to an LDR 5001 or 1000-Yard Stare), and the scope seems to work exceptionally well for me, which is very important. I can't hit crap with most snipers, but this one works for me.

Truth: When has Truth ever not been good?

An Answering Chord: I've said it before, and I'll say it again: With the right perks (which the quest reward version has), this thing is very nearly a stat-for-stat match with Shadow Price/Vanquisher/Grim Citizen, AKA the very best of the Y1 legendary ARs.

Suros Regime: I've always loved this gun. Something about the way it sounds and feels just makes me happy, and the occasional health return always manages to kick in at just the right time to make my Titan feel invincible. So, when I finally got enough Legendary Marks to buy my first Y2 exotic blueprint, this was the first thing I went for. No regrets. It's still the king of the ARs in my book.

Paleocontact JPK-43: Very similar to Up For Anything from TDB. Mine rolled with Crowd Control, Armor Piercing Rounds, and Surrounded. A dream roll for hosing down trash mobs up close, and it's VERY good in that role.

Suros JLB-47: Picked this up from Banshee a week or two ago. Nearly maxed blast radius and velocity, plus grenades and horseshoes. Probably would be a great crucible launcher, but it's serving me well in PvE.

Last Extremity/Cocytus SR4: I was using Last Extremity a lot for a while. It's very similar to the old Badger CCL, which was my favorite long-range scout rifle from Y1. Mine rolled with a long-range scope, Army of One, and Life Support, plus some other meh perks I don't remember. Then a few days ago, amazingly I had a Cocytus SR4 drop, which is exactly the same gun but with higher stability and aim assist. This one also had Army of One and Life Support, but added extended mag (for 16 rounds instead of 12), and the SAME SCOPE. Unbelievably lucky, it just reproduced a gun I already loved, with a couple of improvements.

Boolean Gemini: I don't use it that much, but I really do love the way this thing handles.

Sleeper Simulant: I'll admit, I don't use it all the time, but wow is it satisfying when you land a couple of criticals. They really nailed the sound and feel. When it goes off, it really feels like whatever's on the other end is DOOMED.

Imprecation. That gun sucks so bàd. I'm working on the First Curse quest and it's just not fun. This gun has negative aim assist. Even when I have time to line up a headshot, it will miss anything beyond fusion rifle range. If the enemy starts shooting back I just have to run away, because I'm not going to win a shootout if they're halfway competent. I hate having to play against opponents with the Iron Banner pulse and Red Death while I'm carrying a 6 round gun with the accuracy of a ping pong ball launcher.

The First Curse is basically identical to Imprecation. It's not good.
