What's the best way to farm coins? (Destiny)

I've come to realize that I don't play enough random stuff or long enough to get coins, but I've been hurting these last couple times that Xur has come around... I just need to find a place to focus my energy.

Level 28 PoE. Can breeze through it in fifteen or twenty minutes (if even that long?), and it doesn't seem like they dropped the amount of motes/coins in drops by much. I got six of each on my last time through, and that was just from the little chests as I didn't have a treasure key (I can't remember if they ever dropped along with the weapons from the big chest or not).
And 28 PoE is actually a pretty fun mindless activity. You just have to shoot things and relax, which is nice.

Does PoE big chest drop Year two exotics? I might have some keys lying around here somewhere...

Nope, the chest only drops the same stuff it ever has (although I guess the three exotics from the Cipher have been added to its loot table, since you can no longer get the Cipher).
I do think you can use the 3oC on the round 5 bosses, though.

was a post on reddit earlier in the week suggesting that everyone farm the level 32 POE. This week there are several ultras. If you take your time (let the 3oC buff cooldown) you could use a 3oC on each ultra, and then be rewarded with enough SC at completion to buy more 3oC. It's possible to break even or even start with more 3oC (via SC) than you started with.

PoE level 28 pays out a few when you open the chests. You can run that pretty fast now.

I went from 400 SC when TTK dropped and I'm down to a measly 15 SC after this morning. I'm in serious need of strange coins.
On a bright note, I finally got 310 Voidfang Vestments from the engram which helps things a ton for my PvP build :)

Just curious, what do people spend strange coins on now?
I have 632 across my three characters. I feel like I get a few Strange Coins as drops pretty frequently, and I only buy some 3 of Coins occasionally--I think I bought 21 last week?
Engrams from xur, looking for that special 310 piece?

Yep
I just buy engrams from Xur trying to get 310 armor. It's a lot easier to spend strange coins than trying to infuse up a 280 or 290 piece of armor.
Of course not every week Xur brings an armor engram, those weeks I save my coins. When he does I usually keep spending until I have 75-100 left.

All three of my characters are still in the 290's.
If there is still a chance at 310's despite my low light, yeah I would buy quite a few of them tonight.
My personal experience says you have no chance

I'm pretty sure that if you're below 300, they'll all decrypt to 290. Period.
The one thing I found that the community wisdom was wrong about was that the flipping point is 300, not 300+. That is - someone stated that you needed to be ABOVE 300 (as in, 301 or higher) to get the chance for 310 decryptions - but we found that 300 is just fine.
