Sunbreakers and Mayhem... (Destiny)

OK, so I recently posted about my change from a Sunbreaker Titan to a Gunslinger Hunter... and why I think the Gunslinger is far superior to the Sunbreaker in standard PvP.

The basic idea was that I don't think the Sunbreaker is OP, but that it seems that way because all of the subclass strengths are stacked on the super being strong. It is the best trump super in the game. In my opinion, and for my playstyle, I actually think Gunslingers are better, (I get a better K/D with Gunslingers), even though I do miss those hammers in PvP.

Well, I just realized something after a few matches of Mayhem with my Gunslinger... Sunbreakers will always rule Mayhem. Since it's basically supers about 80% of the match, and that super is the strongest - basically everyone else is at a pretty significant disadvantage. In regular Crucible this is off set by the neutral game being predominant, and other subclasses having superior or even skillsets. In Mayhem, it's super vs. super, and the Sunbreaker is in a class of it's own.

When Mayhem first dropped after TTK, I loved it! My friends hated it. The difference? I was running Sunbreaker. After running it for the first time as a Hunter yesterday, it was a significantly less pleasant experience. I actually quit and thought I would reserve Mayhem for my Titan (as his only PvP activity).

I am split here. I actually don't think the Sunbreaker needs significant nerfs in regular PvP (slightly change damage resistance, and slightly change hammer spolsion size), but I don't know what in the world would balance it for Mayhem. If Golden Guns always 1 shot, I think it would help, but I think the other Vanilla supers need a slight or major buff. (Is it just me, or do Warlocks have a Fist of Havoc, plus a long period of super with damage resistance? Who is still running Fist of Havoc?)

Anyway, just an observation... Mayhem is a BLAST as a Sunbreaker - the power! But it is less fun as anything else, because the Sunbreaker will constantly win and trump your super.

I have heard running Titan with Supression nades is fun, I may try that and see how it does vs. Sunbreakers. Although I saw some Defenders running in Mayhem, they looked just as scared as me, and then they got their bubbles popped. Poor little defenders - there super is literally trumped by every other super. That doesn't seem super enough for Mayhem.

Mayhem is, by definition, unablanced

Sure, Sunbreakers will still possibly get more kills than you, but boy is it fun!

The relative power of supers is already quite different from gametype to game type. Ward of Dawn is much more useful in Control than in Clash. Radiance jumps way up the list in Elimination.

is there one where sunbreakers are bad?

I think the issue is that there is no game type where HoS is at a disadvantage. At worst, you have a super that can wipe the other team easily and the only issue you can have is popping too far away or where the other team can focus fire you down in that one second.

Claiming that sunbreakers neutral game is poor ignores the two good grenades and healing punch.
Those equal or exceed anything that Blade Dancers can put out (who only get heals on blink kills) or bubble titans (who have more situational grenades and healing on kill).

The punch only heals if you get the kill and you have to do damage before you punch to have a hope of killing your opponent. If you are close enough for that you probably don't have anyone left to fight anyway so I don't know that the healing punch is all that useful.

I don't think I've ever been in a situation where I actually needed the heal... Now if it was like the Warlock where you get a heal when you do damage that would be completely different.
