Last night I jumped into an Oryx checkpoint, and I didn't have 20 Mouldering Shards. I didn't get anything from his drop. I'm not really complaining about it, as that's not why I was playing, but it just made me wonder. I've heard that some folks have had no drops even with 20 Mouldering Shards, so I'm wondering what the chances are if you DON'T have enough. It seems like its designed to guarantee you 20 shards if you go through the entire raid leading up to Oryx, so I wonder if it's designed to try and prevent folks from just jumping into an Oryx checkpoint without doing the whole thing?

I don't know, I've always had moldering shards when I killed him and I got stuff. My guess is that you do get stuff even without moldering shards, because the first time I beat him, I got two Pulse rifles from him.

On a related note, I just have to reiterate that the Oryx fight is really a ton of fun. After beating it the first time (after four separate attempts) I didn't think it was going to be a fun fight to replay. I was wrong.

I jumped in with Blackstar, Narcogen, Lawnmower, JDQuackers, and LadyPhoenix last night. Phoenix had not ever done it, and I was without a mic, and it still went pretty smoothly for the most part. It's actually much, much more forgiving than I initially thought. We had some deaths at points followed by some really clutch saves, which I didn't think was possible from the first time I did that encounter.

Yeah, I've done it twice and it was a blast both times. It's was definitely hard, but you could lose some people and still Res them to finish Oryx. I'm kinda scared of even trying Hard mode for Oryx... gonna be scary

He'll give you a reward, but that reward might just be two shards. If you're really unlucky and you beat him with 20 shards ready to go, you might get four shards :p

Glad you had fun! To be completely honest, that run went MUCH smoother than the one the day before, and even so, it still took two hours. We just came very, very close several times.

We did have a couple of clutch saves, but I'm not sure I'd call the encounter forgiving, exactly.
