Black Spindle, it's not meant to be :( (Destiny)
Like a siren, black spindle lured me away from Halo 5 last night. Ran that dang mission 3 times, and failed every time. On the second run through, i got weaseled when he was at half health. Over the past month, i must've done this mission a dozen times.

After many, many failed attempts...
I finally got it last night, thanks to some help from friends. The thing I can suggest is having two people with swords and over 305 light. We had one dedicated add clearer, and had one person focused on the boss, and managed to do it twice on the first try both times.
Prior to this I've come close, but never did this well. Having one person focus on the adds really worked better then trying to burn the boss off the bat.
Keep trying, get a sword, and get some buddies. You can do it.

What we did was had everyone clear adds, then everyone hit the boss hard until adds came back. It really helps to have a Sun Breaker to melee the boss or have a shadow shot. Sun Breaker + melee + Shotgun does wonders to bosses.
We did it last night, in almost record time
Blue runner, Nacrogen and I did it last night, finally. First attempt we all died, whoops. Second attempt he was dying as time went to 0. We did it one more time, but I had Bluerunner keep his 310 Exotic Sword out, and I sniped the boss to stagger him him while he hit him. We took him down with 2:50 left, it was kind of amazing. We also did focus on ADD's and the blights first.
So exotic Sword, and high impact sniper (1000 yard stare here). Focus on ADD's and blights.

Yeah, focusing on the adds definitely seemed to be the key when I did it. On our first attempt we tried to just burn the boss right away because that was believed to be the "optimal" strategy at the time, but frankly it just didn't work. By the time he got down to half health there were so many Taken Captains you just could not pop your head out from cover at all. On the second attempt we had one person just focus on getting rid of the captains, and the blights where possible, and that made it SO much easier.
This is probably obvious, but the add-clearer should load up on solar damage if possible, for the Captains.

Raze Lighter is the new Gjallarhorn. I just ran laps around the room uppercutting the shielded guys and slashing the rest. Ruin wings kept plenty heavy ammo around. That sword does massive damage to the boss too. I was shocked how fast we cleared that room and the room before it.

Good! Help me next time. :-)
we made a discovery last night
Lawnmower joined Junior and I last night for our weekly go at it. We only had time for two tries, and on our second run we defeated the boss with a few seconds to spare. We were all excited... until we didn't get the reward. It was then that we went to the Internet and discovered that you have to clear out every Taken!
Still a fun challenge, but I can only handle a couple tries per opportunity.

Oh man! That sucks!
We got it!
Cruel and Slycrel helped me get it last night. That's a fun mission, but challenging!
Beorn, if you need help with it next time, let me know!

Awesome!

I'm really glad to hear you guys made it happen! I apologize again for being a no-show; my 14-hour shift that was supposed to end at 1am didn't wrap up until 8am. I'll let you do the math. :-P
This inconsistency in my schedule is why I don't like the time-gating on these missions. My availability seems inversely related to the scheduling of these exotics. :(

Awesome!
Sad we missed you. Sounds like a brutal shift...!

I saw you guys running it.
"Oh, it looks like they only did it for a half hour. Must have quit early."
NOPE. Congrats! That sword sounds boss, but I'm sure it also had a lot to do with practice at this point.

I saw you guys running it.
The sword made it incredibly fast. My biggest problems were the shielded enemies and snipers. The shielded guys go down with 1-2 hits from the uppercut. I was able to run down the sniper ledge and block their shots until I uppercut them. We were clear of the hangar with over 7 minutes left. In our previous runs when we were using other weapons we would have only 5 minutes left.

That's crazy!
