Trials felt like Team Snipers to me this time... (Destiny)

Is it just me, or are the 3v3 game types stacked full of teams all sitting back and sniping?

I noticed this all week as my team and I played Skirmish, Elimination and finally Trials... It just felt like Team Snipers 3v3.

I am not one who generally snipes (I don't enjoy passive PVP), but I was essentially forced to for success in 3v3 this week. It was the least fun week of 3v3 I have had in Destiny. In fact, I have not even wanted to play Crucible since this weeks snipefest... (I was bored out of my mind running sitting around in Trials on Bannerfall with all the hardscoping going on)

Shotguns have been nerfed (and blink shotgunning nearly eliminated), so, I suppose it makes sense. Bannerfall is a very sniper friendly map, but man, I hated some of the games I was in.

Also, revive sniping should not be possible. And... You should not be able to snipe someone in the head while being pelted with bullets, happens to me all the freaking time.

A lot of it had to do with the map. It's made up of long sightlines, with the only close-quarters being in non-advantageous areas.

That said, when we came up against a team of shotgunners, we'd start freaking out, because they were guaranteed to be more aggressive and unpredictable.
Heck, we learned a thing or two, and did the same. No team was really prepared to have people push into their half of the map, and it ended up poorly for the enemy snipers.

Once we have something like Thieve's Den or Burning Shrine again, I think things will play out differently.

my team ran 2 snipers, 1 shotgun (me) and the only teams that beat us were teams running 2-3 shotguns and 1-0 snipers. The 3 sniper teams we faced were easily dispatched (like, *easily*). It really took a serious balance. Snipers were basically forced into the shark fin courtyard area, which is actually a shooting gallery since you can shoot into it from literally anywhere else on the map. Push through into their spawn through the circle tree room and shoot them in the back. The big key to our success was communicating where the enemy players were on the map. Did they stay in their spawn? Charge the middle? Move to the courtyard? As long as they were cautious, we won. Only the charging shotgun double-grenadiers beat us.

I feel like whenever I play Trials, there's one person sniping on my team, and one or two sniping on theirs. The team with more than one sniper is usually at a disadvantage. This past weekend's run had a lot of Scout/Pulse Rifle action, and a ton of CQB stuff going on. Really competitive games, a ton of actual skill involved (out-strafing opponents, landing more headshots, etc). It was pretty nifty because in most of my games, the person who shot first/hit their opponent first didn't necessarily end up the winner at distance. Maybe you ran into an unlucky set of games?

It could have been an unlucky streak. We only played two cards with about 15 games total. I think 12 of the 15 had 2 or 3 snipers on each team. And these were guys who were landing sniper headshots while being fired upon. We had two teams with 3 snipers who 5-0'd us... This Fireteam I was on has made 3 lighthouse trips (which isn't a lot, but we don't get 5-0'd often).

I'm hoping it was a Bannerfall thing, really.

Man... We beat a team of 3 hammer bro's once... THAT was insane. The strategy is literally to run and hide.

A well timed Hammer can pretty much win a round very very easily. We did not run a hammer bro.

I am hoping it was a Bannerfall thing. That map plays very unique IMO, even in 6v6, when compared to other maps.

We certainly went up against our share of snipers, but it felt like an even split between snipes and shotties. Thee Chaos, Ottermack and I had no trouble countering snipers any time we ran in to them. Chaos was sniping some of the time, but Ottermack and I were running shotguns very effectively. I'm almost ashamed to admit that I've become one of those blink/shotgun blade dancers that everyone curses lol

We had a similar experience in our runs. Most of the teams were running all snipers, and just sitting back. We won most of our games (except of course the ones when we were 8-0), but it was a struggle.

Bannerfall definitely had something to do with it. It sets up perfect for snipers, in that there are a lot of large rooms connected by small entry ways, and the escape routes are open on several sides. It's very difficult to even figure out where the other team is without peaking out in very dangerous locations, which resulted in very passive play where neither team would even be trading shots. Even Supers were difficult to bring into play due to the fear of wasting them when either the other team would run away or focus fire as you charged into their area. Next time on Bannerfall I'll be trying Sunsinger.

I also had a very similar frustrating experience with getting sniped while shooting someone. It happened to me multiple times where I would get a full burst of Hawksaw on them, maybe even two, and they would just pull out a headshot out of nowhere. I don't remember that ever happening in Year 1 Crucible. Maybe I was used to the Handcannons having that flinch effect? All I know is when I get shot while trying to snipe, my reticle flies all over the place... I guess there is an "unflinching" perk?
