Had some fun games with Ottermack last night. Warmed up in Skirmish before moving to Trials.
I've talked before about how the Bladedancer is still my favorite PvP class, so I wanted to post a few videos that demonstrate what I was talking about.
I think Bladedancers have one of the weaker all-around supers for PvP (it's awesome in certain situations, but generally outclassed by most other supers). But supers aside, I think the Bladedancer has the best overall movement and ability perks. I've spent the past few months working on honing my instincts for when to press and when to hold back. When it comes to quick shifts like that, I think the Bladedancer has a slight edge over all of the other classes because their jumps allow unpredictable movements and lightning fast weapon swapping.
Here are a couple skirmish matches from last night that highlight what I'm talking about. This first clip also features my 1 and only Phantom medal :)

I mean, I can see what you're saying, but do you think it provides a real tangible benefit, or is it more of a quality of life thing? I think you might just be good at the game.

Lol, I have good days and bad. But I do notice a difference in how I play when I switch classes. I find it more difficult to "switch gears" with my Titan or Warlock. If I start to make an aggressive push, there's no way for me to back out. I'm commuted to the move. With Hunters (especially bladedancers) I can make a push, see the enemy is ready for me, then blink past the enemy to a safe distance and either retreat or engage from longer range. It's not just Blink that allows this, either. The Hunter's regular jumps have such quick up and down travel that you can react and change directions more easily. Warlocks and Titans have so much inertia to their jumps, it makes changing directions difficult once you're moving.

I notice a marked difference between my main class, a Titan, and my secondary, a Bladedancer. I do noticeably better in PvP when I'm running Bladedancer than I do when running any of my Titan's classes. And I'm an adequate PvPer, certainly not GOOD, but not BAD either.

Bladedancers are really good. Even better pre-nerf.

Especially in Rumble.

Hold up. Remember, Titans are the only ones with advantages in Crucible. Hunters are all underpowered and whatnot. Right? Guys?

Warlocks need a melee buff.

Stormcaller melee doesn't even kill in one hit....

Only when those Supers come in to play ;) I think Sumbreakers have ruined the 6v6 gametypes, because chaining supers is so common. A team with 3 or 4 Sunbreakers can get to the point where they're chucking the things every minute or more. But in modes where superstars aren't so dominant, I think Titans have fewer advantages.
Weaker Super. Heh.

Compared to Golden Gun, Titan Hammers, Nova Bomb, Fist of Panick, or Emperor Palpatine, yeah I'd say it is on the weak side. Similar to self-res in that it can be very situational. You can do a lot of damage with it, but you need to pick your moment very carefully and use it just right.
I mean two guys escape Arc blade in this video just by jumping off the ground.
But really, other then Blink still being good to get into and out of places, I'm not really seeing anything here outstanding from a class perspective. You don't stealth, and it didn't look like you got much use out of hungering blade. The arc grenade really only setup a double kill once and failed several times. Is the passive weapon swap buff that good? Do you have the quickdraw BD perk plus the snapshot perk on your sniper?
That is really what it seems to come down to. BD quickdraw perk plus snapshot makes a very accurate sniper, but any other class can come close by getting quickdraw on their guns.
I like BD, you feel like such a speed demon with agility cranked all the way up and MIDA, but other then that speed edge it seems that it really has trouble in the current meta. With everyone trying to set up long sight lines it's tough to get in close.
Case in point, in mayhem modes I see Shadowstalkers staying cloaked all the time, and Titans spamming the hammers, and both are really effective. I rarely, if ever see people blade dancing, and if they do any other super seems to cancel it. Heck, I ran around as a striker titan and shoulder charged on a mayhem rumble match and managed to get over a 1.0 KD.
Basically, I think without the strength of Blink, BDs would be the worst class by far in PVP.

I'm not convinced.

Yep. Part of that is I suck with Arc Blade, but as I said Arc Blade is one of the weaker over-all supers. Thing is, 95% of your crucible gameplay is not spent using a super ;)

Yes, the weapon swap is that good. Hunter jumps are all very good for PvP because of the quick rise and fall; your movement and trajectory never slows down like the other classes do. Blink has the additional advantages of ring less predictable and breaking line of sight. That's really important when it comes to changing directions quickly; pushing to advance, then pulling back hard all of a sudden, for example. That's where the quick-draw perk comes in. You can move to shotgun range and fire off a shot or two while your opponent is still trying to switch weapons. Or fake a shotgun rush, jump back and swap to your primary and get shots off before your opponent has time to swap back.
Check out the 2nd video I posted. I run shotgun instead of sniper, I think it illustrates my points a bit better.

If I'm playing Mayhem, I'd agree. That's because Mayhem is like 70% about supers. It's a very different game from the rest of Destiny's PvP.
It's definitely better than NB and FoH

They're just more reliable panic buttons. Arc Blade takes more skill to use but it's definitely better.
Nothing beats Hammer or Palpatine, sadly.
Edit: Mayhem is the obvious exception. Panic button is best button when it recharges almost instantly.
