Anyone else deal with crybabies when using year one weapons? (Destiny)
In regular normal mode Crucible, I tend to play with some of my year one weapons. You know, things like Praedyth's Revenge, or weapons like Truth. And I frequently get messages from people using the most shocking, unspeakable language my poor innocent eyes have ever seen about how horrible I am for daring to use year one items. I've literally been told on multiple occasions that it's people like myself that ruin Destiny. Say what? I mean, their tears are absolutely delicious, and it's extremely funny to me that they're so mad, but I'm curious to know if anyone else has run into similar peoples who probably just need to get their BRs up.

Anyone else deal with crybabies when using year one weapons?
I got this once:
"WTF is Lord of Wolves? Where U get that???"
followed almost immediately by
"Oh lol Y1 NOOB"

Year 1 "noob"?

Those people are twats, worthy of neither pity, nor mercy.

Genuinely one of the strangest uses of noob I've ever seen.

Year 1 "noob"?
I know right? When Bungie said that people would see my gear and want to know about it or how I got it, who knew that they really meant that the peoples would be jealous and mad and incapable of victory against my mighty, ancient weaponry and battlecraft?

RIP Y1 weapons
Bungie essentially ruined all my favorite Y1 weapons except for the Messenger. My amazing shot package, return to sender, hammer forged Felwinters, my Final Round, spray and play Efrideets, etc.... All of those are essentially worthless now.
What I don't understand is the need for people to still use Y1 weapons. The top tier events Trials and Iron Banana all require (practically speaking) Y2 weapons. So why not practice with your new weapons so that way you are comfortable with them when doing top teir events. With that said, I haven't dismantled all of my old favorites in case I want to full on troll some people.

My Matador is still as unstoppable as it used to be. They didn't touch Rangefinder. And no joke on Messenger, I love the living daylights out of mine. It's always in my inventory.

Variety and fun. I didn't get my Messenger, Matador, or Truth without a lot of time, skill, effort, or in the latter two's cases, RNG. I finally got myself a year two Truth, though! I also go into Crucible with my year two stuff.
As for Trials and Iron Banner, I'm beyond comfortable with what I have, and I've still been cleaning up fairly well in Trials. It's not really about comfort. My Trials weapons are things that I've usually been rocking during the Raid at different points, so I know what to expect already. And so far so good in my Trials usage.
Also, in Trials I have to maximize light level. In regular Crucible, I can rock armor pieces that I enjoy the look of without as much care for perks or light, and the same goes for weapons depending upon what map I feel they may be the most useful on. It's fun using my year one stuff and year two stuff depending upon map, mode, mood, or aesthetic.

Because all my Y2 weapons are worse, is the answer.
I had two matadors - one with rangefinder and one with shot package. guess which one I dismantled to make vault space? SUGH.
This is why I want to KEEP EVERYTHING, Bungie…

They're fun.

Like driving a classic car...
MIDA, Universal Remote, Lord of Wolves, Mythoclast, all are like classic cars that those of us lucky enough to have can pull out of the garage on a leisurely sunday afternoon and take a drive through the crucible. They are classics, hard earned and hold an honored place in our limited vault space.
I can imagine some young kinderguardian or takentot in their 2L turbo rice burner Thousand Yard Stare with luck in the chamber, thinking they are hot stuff when you pull up to the light next to them in that sleek, sleek Mythoclast. He kind of rolls the eyes and aims down the sights, only for you to blink close and empty a clip of classic solar vex love into his shiny Oryx helmet. The rage, how could such a outdated thing beat his twitch streamer approved load out! Why you must be a … a… scrub, cheater, noob! Don't you know you must have one of two high impact snipers and a pulse rifle! Do you even lift he screams into the mike as you effortlessly slide away to ruin someone's day with your Corrective Measure.

MIDA . . .
Oh my god. I completely forgot. I got my first MIDA from the engram Rahool gives you when you first start TTK. I put it in my vault and haven't touched it. Maybe I need to level that up and play Crucible with it.
Because Y2 weapons are less broken
Icebreaker's insane AA, Messenger's ridiculous laser beam of death, Gjallarhorns "somehow still better than Truth"ness, Nechrochasm's ridiculous "im useful now!" DpS. Given the choice between cool new toys and old, borderline-OP ones, some people are gonna feel that need to be tryhards.
Which is not to say going full sweaty isn't fun on occasion. And of course some Y1 weapons aren't particularly OP, but just fun. But it's usually not your MIDA that people are getting upset about. It's Mr.Messenger/Felwinter/Radeghast.

That's an excellent gif
:D
I'm not claiming the guy made sense, but I did laugh when I read the message. So weird. And who sends messages in the middle of a crucible match???

MIDA is Godly for Rift Runners

Still love Pocket Infinity in the Crucible; no one these days expects a fusion rifle to act as a room-broom.
-- Steve knows it's not the best out there, but the fun is the thing, y'know?

Try it out. The nice thing about MIDA is that most of its interesting functionality works right out of the box. I'm really sad that it didn't make the Y2 cut, but try it in Crucible or some Y1 stuff. It was a great gun in its day.

Lol.

That's great and all, but it's not the case.
I don't really know what you're saying. Year 1 weapons are generally much more broken. Hence the problem.

Y2 has Tlaloc, I guess
Very similar to MIDA if you don't mind never using your Super (which most Warlocks do...)

I love this post. So in honor, song.
Live version because rock and roll moves, also they are kind of classic cars too at this stage :P
Sick as a dog today too, so thanks for the smile and memory.

That's great and all, but it's not the case.
I don't think they were. Why do you think they were? Each had a perfectly fine counter. Thorn may have been overpowered, but with that fix, it's fine now.
I dismantled all Y1 weps for parts

Gjallarhorn has tracking, Grenades & Horseshoes and tracking clusters Icebreaker has regenerating ammo and an absolute shit-tonne of range and aim assist. The Messenger was The Messenger!
[Edit: Plus of course Pocket Infinity, Plan C, Lord of Wolves, Universal Remote (which has been buffed!) and a bunch of other exotics that have been left behind.]
Now, those are Exotics, so at least you only see a few of those. But Y!'s re-rolling completely broke the meta, and let everypme have perfect Rangefinder/Rifled Barrel shotguns, Aggressive Ballistics/Crowd Control/Hidden Hand LMGs and LitC/Final Round Handcannons.
Obviously not all year one weapons were broken, but the ability to reroll them, along with some ridiculous perk sets, made them way more broken than most year two weapons. Especially now that those perk combinations are a lot harder to come by now thanks to different manufacturers using different pools (you can't get LitC on Hakke Handcannons, for example) and a wider variety of perks in the first place.
Honestly, the only weapons that are better in Y2 than Y1 are Snipers.

That's great and all, but it's not the case.
You just listed tons of good weapons. This gives you many options, which means the game isn't broken.
What are you even talking about?
Are we having different conversations here? The whole topic was about Y1 weapons vs. Y2. My point is that Y1 weapons are superior to Y2 weapons. How does there being a whole range of broken Y1 weapons make Y2 weapons any less inferior?

What are you even talking about?
I don't know why you're calling them broken. They don't break anything.
It's a figure of speech
A commonly accepted term for weapons or abilities that outclass the rest. One that communicates an idea without needing to explain yourself because everyone knows what it means. One that you even used yourself, so I know you know what it means.
The question was "Why do people use Y1 weapons still"
The answer is because a lot of them are far and away better than Y2 weapons, because a lot of them have far better stats and/or perk combinations. Which you seem to disagree with on account of there being a lot of them?
There being many (many!) good Y1 weapons makes Y2 weapons better?

It's a figure of speech
And my point is that they don't outclass all others. There are plenty of viable year one options to counter other year one options. Hence, they are not broken.
They are simply good.
Okay, we're definitely having two different conversations
I'm saying Y1 weapons are better than Y2 weapons. You're saying Y1 weapons are balanced within Y1.
I've literally run out of ways to say "That's not what I'm talking about" at this point. All I can infer is that you saw the word "broken" (which I used in comparative terms, Y1 weapons being broken vs. Y2) and got excited?
But once more - Year One weapons are superior to Year 2 weapons. Year 1 balance was good (eventually). Year 2 balance is good (mostly). Year 1 weapons used against Year 2 weapons have an advantage, because they are collectively, as a whole "more broken" than their Y2 counterparts. They counter each other because, as you say, when everything is broken nothing is. But not everything is broken any more.
Which is (one of) the answer to the question "Why still use Y1 weapons?"

Okay, we're definitely having two different conversations
We agree they're better. I simply disagree with your premise.
They aren't more broken. I posit there ARE no broken guns in Destiny anymore.
Are you saying, that by "broken" you simply mean better? If so, I advise against using that word for that purpose. It is confusing, at least to me, since it normally means better to the point of there being few, if any, worthwhile alternatives, thereby breaking the meta-game of weapon selection. You also seem to understand it as such, so I'm arguing against your statement that they are more broken. Because they're not broken.
They're not even broken versus year 2. Simply better in general.
Okay, we're definitely having two different conversations
How can the statement "If everything is broken, nothing is" stand up if you say nothing is in the first place? If the problem was my choice of words I would have been receptive to that, but you sure buried the lead.
I'd still argue Y1 weapons must have been at least a little broken, considering they literally removed two of the offending perks, and made some perk combinations impossible now, but I guess that's just a matter of opinion. At least some of it has been retroactively nerfed.
The point is, Year 1 weapons were balanced by everything being equally great. T2 weapons are all equally average (longer TtK etc.), which is actually a goid thing I'd say. But Y1 weapons are not at all well balanced versus Y2 weapons.

In game messaging.
My brother got a message the other night something along this line:
"Nice yellow bar a-hole, way to ruin the game for everyone, dirty cheater."
It made us giggle because we have no basically no control over Destiny's connection status. We have 20 Meg cable and an open NAT, but we also have two bones on the same network which can sometimes cause issues. We rarely run poor connection quality in Matchmaking but for some reason we were having some issues that night.

I can agree with this. And apparently so can the crybabies who actually message me their vile, hateful, filled with delicious yummy tears language after they got slaughtered. I tend to get more messages when I'm rocking my Messenger. Maybe they're just being ironic. :P
