Iron Banner Clash. What do you think of it? (Destiny)

by BeardFade ⌂, Portland, OR, Wednesday, November 18, 2015, 21:34 (3388 days ago)

I think getting 2500 pts in a match is a damn hard challenge (I don't often get 20+ kills cause I like to hang back and engage at a distance).

I also think it actually leads to less map movement. Without the incentive of capturing a B-zone, there's less reason to go to certain parts of the map, or to engage the enemy in the open areas.

Thoughts?

That bounty was a pain in the ass. I thought it would be easy because I was picturing the score in terms of Control, but the points scale very differently this time around. Dur.

Yeah, the maps definitely move differently when the objective is removed. Spawn rotation definitely helps keep things flowing, though.

Overall I like it. Not sure if I like it better or worse than Control, but the change of pace is nice. Just as long as we don't end up with Iron Banner Salvage…

I can see it, every single match.

Camera pans over the map, fade out.

"Mayhem."

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh.

Titan, Titan, Titan, Titan, Titan, Titan.

"Bravo Team."

Fade in.

"Stick together, tea--I've seen enough! This battle is one-sided!"

Just think about your frustration with random teammates in control, then ramp that up 200%. That would be IB rift.

"Spark is up. I had better stand here holding X to pick it up while the other team is shooting me."

"I didn't die while picking it up? Better run straight at that guy on their side with the sniper. This thing gives me a shield, right?"

"Oh look, they have the spark. I had better go camp a doorway on their side of the map."

I think that would be the worst.

by BeardFade ⌂, Portland, OR, Thursday, November 19, 2015, 17:21 (3387 days ago) @ Malagate

I never seem to win a rift match without just taking things into my own hands. It's the equivalent of playing sports as a kid when everyone else can't understand the simplest of strategies, and you just end up yelling, "FINE! I'll do it!"

I think that was a control bounty. They changed the gametype, but didn't change the bounty, so it's a pretty hard one to get.

When they capture a bad point in control I think "come on, dumbass."

When they perform poorly in clash, I have no animosity. They are just having a bad game, which happens to everyone.

I always look to like, and assume people are intelligent and trying their best.

It is much easier to keep the delusion in clash.

I had a dreadful run of luck last night, but at least it was thanks to bad shooting and not people who don't know how to play the gametype

I think that makes a lot of sense. But there still can be a considerable amount of strategy in Clash. It is still better to control certain areas as a team, allowing more advantageous encounters.

Yeah, 2500 is HARD to do. You pretty much have to be the top scorer on your team to make that happen.

That being said, I like clash. The battle is a lot more fluid and team shotting is waaaay more important that control where you can sometimes just sneak in solo to take a point.

Yet again, Sunbreakers are destroying Iron Banner for me. Of my 10 deaths in my first game, 7 were from hammers, and most of those hammers weren't even thrown at me (they were thrown at teammates near me which is all it takes thanks to the insane splash damage). It's utter garbage. I'm pretty far towards the "Destiny PvP would be better without supers" camp, so this probably bothers me more than most other players. But I can't stand it. Not touching IB or 6v6 crucible again until they nerf Sunbreakers... which isn't happening until December.

Sigh :(

by TheeChaos @, Thursday, November 19, 2015, 16:44 (3387 days ago) @ Schedonnardus

it seems different than other regens. Primarily when I play blade dancer, there is this "grace period" between me getting a kill, and my health getting high enough to not die. More times than not, I die if I keep getting hit. Hammerbros don't seem to suffer from this. It could just be perception.

There should be no regen at all. The whole point of regen on a blade dancer is that you take hits getting in close enough to actually connect with your attack. Titans do not have that problem, and so should get zero regen on super kills.

Even on paper it looks overpowered: homing range based super that heals you. Yup.

I feel you, I played a couple games last night and did really bad. Not because of supers or anything just didn't play well. I also tried playing this morning, then while loading into the game got disconnected for destiny servers. So i just put in battlefront.

Part of me still wants to play destiny, but when I get on I just can't do it. Must be the new games out pulling me away.

A Post-IB Recap

by BeardFade ⌂, Portland, OR, Tuesday, November 24, 2015, 18:17 (3382 days ago) @ BeardFade

I know being on the 2nd page might make this hard to get this conversation going again, but now that I'm post-IB, I had a few thoughts I wanted to share.

1) Overall, loot dropping was much improved and made the experience a lot more fun. IB packages were great, allowed me to get all three of my characters into the mid 300s (lowest is 305, highest 308). I got a 320 ghost to drop for me, I literally yellled. Robot Chickens and Rellekh can attest to this as they were in my living room when it happened. Getting that much gear from IB made the experience worth the grind IMHO.

2) Clash was fine, except for one thing: the damn auto-spawn switching. For anyone who knows my play style, I purposely stay on the half of the map my teammates are on. I hang back and I take people out from a distance. This leads to a relatively long average life for me. I think I'm pretty close to the 1 minute mark for average life length if I remember correctly. So, frequently, I'd be the last one alive on my team; they'd all revive on the other half of the map and all of a sudden I'd go from being supported to being surrounded with no escape. On one particular occasion, I started the match with a 14-kill streak to have it ended by this. I was frequently frustrated to unscope on a target to find 2 or three triangles converging on me suddenly in the radar. That wasn't fun at all.

3) Ranking went really fast. I had all 3 characters to rank 5 by Saturday morning and I don't think I even played that much. I don't even have class items for any of my characters, so I was only getting 2/3s the possible buff. I got the titan class item to drop for me, so next IB, I'll be able to do this even faster I think.

Overall, though, this was one of the best IBs for me yet.
