Auto Rifles and Titans (Destiny)

by MacAddictXIV @, Seattle WA, Friday, November 20, 2015, 16:49 (3386 days ago)

I love my Auto Rifles and I love using Titans, but I've found that in PvP it's really hard to use them together and be effective. The reason why is because with the prevalence of sniping and good range weapons is that it's really hard to get in close fast to actually use the AR. And it makes it all the worse that Titans have no mobility to get in close like Blink or roll which makes it really hard. Some might say use shoulder charge, but you are way to vulnerable right after it's use. The only close to viable solution is to use Juggernaut, which I have to say is a great for getting in close, but not for doing it quickly. Everyone always sees me a mile away because well, I'm glowing bright blue. Also, like Shoulder charge there is a bit of a delay after using it which usually is plenty of time for the other person mow you down.

Why Bungie? Why do you have to create a badass character that seems like he embodies getting in someones business to punch them in the face and then give them shitty mobility and melee?

Yeah, I tried that once and I was terrible at it! maybe one day...

I think a lot of those videos overstate the complexity. Yea, you can't just string together tons of moves day one, but you can get a lot of utility out of the basic "Jump, wait, Mash a a a unleash weapon" strategy.

Yeah, the last time I tried doing it I was with a party and they kept telling me to be quite because my a button mashing was too loud :-)

Hitting a button quickly doesn't require hitting it hard. This is sometimes hard to learn, and a lesson I learned actually from playing electric guitar. Your fret speed increases the more efficiently you can press a string to the fretboard, not by how hard you can press the string to fretboard. Hope this analogy helps when you retry learning to skate. Taps, not smashes.

I've been practicing this lots, I'm slowly getting better and often find I pickup too much horizontal momentum & zip past my intended target before I can land and have to take a shot as I fly by.

I don't know about roll, but I didn't think blink helped you move any faster towards your enemy, it only makes you harder to hit (the first few times). What abilities do warlocks have that allows them to close from sniping distance to AR distance?

Titans literally have the only ability that makes them near impossible to kill while closing the distance, AND close the distance faster than anyone else (that isn't using a super).

Sorry bro, I don't have your back on this one :)

Me, I just sneak around. Us warlocks have no options for speed or stealth.

But warlocks don't need to get close with their ridiculous punching ability. Titans have to get into someone's personal space to use them t-Rex arms. If shoulder charge actually replaced the punch and could be activated without sprinted but only when charged, that would be better. Others wise they should change the sticker melee icon to a guy giving hugs.

I've got big hopes for Fabian strategy in December. Love the higher rof rifles. They are excellent up close and will couple well with a sniper.

Don't straw man me :)

The original argument was that Titan's have no ability to close to distance from Sniping to AR. It was not, as you propose, to close the distance all the way to melee range.

But to you comment, yes, being bitch slapped by glowing finger tips will always beat having to use ones entire fist. I'm okay with this :)

Ok back to the point. You are correct, titans have both jugganawt and shoulda chaage. I'd argue that both are inferior to warlock blink for effectively closing the distance safely because blink is much more disorienting. It can also be activated quickly where juggz has a delay. Also you can blink in many directions. Titans can only go forward. But we are brave so we always do anyway.

Although not as effective, I usually just jump then press jump again on the way down. Works great.

Warlocks can Blink too you know

Okay, maybe I shouldn't have used the word "faster". All I care about is being able to safely close distance to use an AR and then hope to kill someone. In my mind, because It's been used on me many times, both roll and blink have been use for just that purpose.

Titans literally have the only ability that makes them near impossible to kill while closing the distance, AND close the distance faster than anyone else (that isn't using a super).

You are right in that Juggernaut is a GREAT ability to close the distance, however unless you have someone at your back to cover you, you get slaughtered every single time when you come out of it. If there wasn't a delay to it or if it disoriented people or something!

Sorry bro, I don't have your back on this one :)

So you don't use blink to close distance towards your enemy?

So you don't use blink to close distance towards your enemy?

Nope. Have you ever seen me use blink? Only Voidwalkers have it (my least favorite sub-class) and I'm a player that prefers mobility, speed, and height over blinking which provides none of those. I've also only every seen Blink used effectively in close combat. I don't think I've ever had someone win a sniper/scout/pulse rifle duel with me because they were blinking.

I'm not a fan of blink, but I'm also not a fan of shotguns, so I tend to avoid those combat distances when possible.
