360->XB1 LE Upgrade? (Destiny)

by Beorn @, <End of Failed Timeline>, Thursday, November 27, 2014, 12:49 (3447 days ago)

My sister and her husband are picking up Xbox Ones while the Black Friday deals are good. I had bought them Destiny Ghost and Limited editions for their 360s, and I'm wondering how that content will transfer to the XB1 for them. They've already redeemed all of the codes for Limited Edition stuff, so should all of that just work when they fire up the One? Or do they need to do something special?

As far as I know, they have to purchase all of that content again for Xbox One to use it on Xbox One. The only thing that did a free upgrade was Xbox 360 digital versions purchased through the Xbox marketplace.

As an owner of both systems you are stuck repurchasing all of the stuff. And all of the exclusive items don't transfer either (ghost shell, blacksmith shader, sparrow, ship). It blows after spending nearly $250 on games between them that you are still stuck without simple in game content.

Ugh.

I ask because I started on the Xbox One and backtracked to the 360, and this was the case. Nothing transferred and I had to purchase a 360 Limited Edition to get my gear back. What's confusing me is that the official Destiny site does say that 360->XB1 should work:

Q. When I buy the Destiny Limited Edition or Destiny Ghost Edition on Xbox 360, will I also be able to download the Xbox One version of the Expansion Pass that comes with it for free?

Yes, when you buy the Destiny Limited Edition or Destiny Ghost Edition on Xbox 360 and redeem the Expansion Pass by January 15, 2015, you will also be able to download it on Xbox One by doing the following:

  • Log into your Xbox 360 and redeem the token for the Destiny Expansion Pass on Xbox Live on or before January 15, 2015.
  • Log into your Xbox One using the same Microsoft Account (Xbox Live Account) used to redeem the Destiny Expansion Pass on Xbox 360.
  • Navigate to the Expansion Pass within the Destiny content page in the Xbox Store.
  • Add the item to your download queue and wait for the download to complete.

A physical or digital Xbox One version of the Destiny game will be required to play this content on Xbox One, sold separately.

Expansion Pass content (which includes Expansions I and II) will only be available for full download once released.

At the very least, I think the Expansion should still work, but the Limited Edition gear also needs to transfer. Otherwise I'm going to be very upset.

I would hope it does, too, since it's exactly the digital content that is in the Digital Guardian Edition.

Xbox games store says the expansion pass is good for both.

But, I don't know if it is redeemable for both at the same time or if they are now locked into 360s.

I've got a question I've been wondering

I purchased the Digital Guardian Edition to conveniently be able to play right away and lock in the forthcoming DLC.
My Ghost Edition shipped later. I never redeemed the code in the Ghost Edition. I've been thinking about gifting the code to a buddy so he doesn't have to buy The Dark Below.
If I gave away this code to him, would I potentially be giving away something I don't want to miss out on? Seems like all the relatively pointless emblems, ghost shell, and ships I have gained through other ways...?

But I'm not sure
Sometimes these codes have other things tied to them

So far, nothing else.

My buddy has a ghost edition. He says it's dumb EXCEPT for that cool ghost shell.

I think his question was about the digital content, but I like the other physical stuff--especially the steelbook.

It would have been a mistake to redeem the codes (there are more than one), since you've already bought all of that digital content with the digital edition (that's the only other way to get that stuff other than buying the Ghost Edition).

On the digital front, you're good.
