You need better testers Bungie (Destiny)
Seriously?
Black Hammer has a sweet ability White Nail, in which 3 precision shots in a row refill your mag. However turn on Hive Disruptor? The extra damage doesn't count as critical, so White Nail can never activate.
Did any of your testers actually PLAY THIS GAME? This seems impossible to miss.

Do you just, like, go on reddit, find what they're talking about, and come spam it here every day?

That's exactly what I did.

I was wondering if I was the only person who noticed that. I'm not complaining because I would rather discuss these things here. And I check here more often than reddit.
Testing a fully upgraded rifle against the enemies it's intended for does seem pretty obvious. I want this rifle. When I get it I'll just hold off buying the hive perk until they've fixed it. I'm glad somebody pointed that out before I got it.

I just assumed that when adding a new perk, it is tested in combination with all existing perks, either manually or through automation since the number of combinations could be huge. This one would have been easy to catch by simply using the gun.

Testing does not mean noticing.
They might have tested the hell out of it and just not noticed.
That sounds worse though if that is the case haha
Hurr de durr

Which is why he used the phrase "better testers".
However, there is another possibility. They have noticed it, but it is down the list of fixes or was ignored by testing management/development as of now.
I'm just curious
What are all of the combinations of perks, enemies, and types of hits. This doesn't sound like the easiest thing to test. How long did it take the massive fan base to find this egregious bug?

If they did, then they should have disabled hive disruptor. White Nail seems like a way better ability to have.
I'm just curious
You don't have to test it with human input. Automate all the things
I'm just curious
Soon we'll make games that play themselves!
My GF would like that

I lol'd
But seriously, most MMOs are riddled with playing bots that automate the grinding.
I lol'd
And it will still get a 9.8 on the game sites.
Wave of the future!

Believe me, if I could find a bot to get all the daily bounties and grind patrol missions all day, I would absolutely do that.
I'm just curious
I dunno about the number of combinations (probably a lot), but I have to admit that shooting Hive with your Hive disruptor weapon seems like a fairly obvious thing to try out.
If you could get all your daily grind from shooting a blank
wall for five minutes each day, would you do it?
You could listen to music or chat with your fireteam, plan your raid, whatever.
So you really DO go looking for things to complain about! :p

I used to be a professional beta tester
and Cody is Right.
This game is full of stuff that should have been fixed long before ship, such as the cumbersome inventory, this gun/perk combo not working right, the missing artwork on my Birth of History ship, the Raid bugs (holy crap the raid bugs), etc..
On top of that is the atrocious approach to user interface. Slick at first blush, but so full of poor decisions like forcing players to orbit before selecting where to go next, shared bank but not shared inventory, having more types of currencies than players have inventory slots, etc.. The whole thing could use a major overhaul.
And then there are the plot-logic bugs... Events happening out of sequence, not making sense, not being connected, or not knowing about things you already did etc... Loads of issues there, too.

A network engineer on reddit posted regarding this, and his conjecture was that this was to reduce congestion on the network. If you started off in the tower, or went straight to the tower from a destination, it would clog stuff up.
I used to be a professional tester, and programmer
And I disagree. This game has a massive amount of the tiniest details. Going through every unit's animation in Rise Of Nations made my eyes bleed and I can't imagine the time and effort the test team at Bungie are putting in.
I'm just curious
Easier said than actually done.
What exactly is that?
I know what a "professional tester" is, or quality engineer as most like to be called. But what does it mean to be a beta tester professionally?
I'm just a regular own desktop software engineer, where the question of input, output, and state are difficult to test completely, but do-able. The combinations that a game like Destiny has is near infinite.
This board also seems to mistake "knowing a bug exists" with "Fixing a bug that exists". Knowing a problem is not the same as knowing a solution, which is especially not the same as knowing the RIGHT solution.
I can fully imagine that Bungie knew this existed, knew the fix would be tedious, so they shipped it instead of delaying the update by a month.
Software Devs are the new recall specialists

I guess these days releasing a patch is like evaluating a recall for an airbag. Except nobody dies while Bungie tries to figure out how to patch, or if they should.
Seems quite different to me
In the case of a vehicle recall, they already have a solution.
In the case of a dangerous item recall, you voluntarily give it back to the company.
The first scenario is exactly what Bungie will do, they will issue a "recall" (update) when they have a fix. For the second case you are welcome to put Destiny down if you notice a bug and it scares you.
Personally, I'd rather they release some of this stuff with these sorts of really minor bugs, than to give me nothing and spend more time finding and fixing.
The major bugs they should fix before releasing, but I don't consider this one of them.

It's my own fault. Sarcasm is impossible to write.

heh. Well as I stated a little earlier, I'm a software engineer. My feathers were ruffled too much by being called a recall specialist to get the humor ;-)

Hey, it's all good. Another reason to go back and rewatch Fight Club, amiright?

All it would have taken to find this is to use the gun fully upgraded on a Hive. It's not some obscure weird thing.
YOU don't know what you're talking about.
Bungie has excellent playtesters.
*looks deeply at herself in the mirror*
The Interceptor was perfect!
Of course
But still a LOT more viable than testing by hand everything. :p
This might be BS
My clanmate has both upgrades and tells me it works just fine (on yellow Ogres at least)
You need better testers Bungie
Thanks for telling me this! I just received two of them and will buy the perk in one but not the other and check the differences out. They say if you buy the hive disruptor the white nail is only deactivated on hive units but works with any other enemies.
>_<
You have heard the joke about the software engineer being sent to the grocery store right? I pulled this version from a random google result:
A wife asks her husband, a software engineer, “Could you please go shopping for me and buy one carton of milk, and if they have eggs, get 6!”
A short time later the husband comes back with 6 cartons of milk.
The wife asks him, “Why the hell did you buy 6 cartons of milk?”
He replied, “They had eggs.”
Off-Topic
I love Rise of Nations.
Why yes, I will take any viable opportunity to say this.
Oh thank god
I clicked this message with apprehension, expecting to read "but then I took an arrow to the knee."
Thank you for a regular post.
