Another questions. (Destiny)

Yay English of Mastery! Questions much!

Reading over and over Lukes post these parts jump at me:

Story missions - soloable activities (you can still play them in groups of up to 3!)
Strikes - 3 player activities
Explore - cruise around the surface of a planet in Fireteams of up to 3
Raids - 6 player (Two Fireteams?)

How big is a Fireteam? Or am I reading "team" too literately? Or is the wording just a slip and a fire team is literately a group of three? Does that mean there will be only three people at a time in any one match made space? Or is it just the total amount of people who can be linked with you?...or something. What is the maximum number of people in a game play space? What is to stop them all of joining us? Mega Dance Party in Destiny?!
