But that's in part because I find Diablo to be considerably more rote and simple compared to the activities I enjoy in Destiny.
I do too. I think that's why it works. Diablo allows me to grind while watching Parks and Rec or something, or listen to a podcast. Destiny requires just enough engagement for me to not do that but not enough engagement do fully hold my attention or make it fun to grind. Like just about everything in Destiny, it's this weird middle ground that just doesn't quite work.
Elite: Dangerous and Pandora have allowed me to appreciate this kind of leisure activity. Gotta be jumping all over human space for a couple hours? Toss on some jazz.
And it, like you said, just kinda works in a way Destiny doesn't.
