Do you really think so? I guess this varies a lot by state. Where I grew up, in the southeast US, teachers are definitely underpaid for the amount of work they put in. Other than "getting summers off" (which does seem pretty awesome) all the teachers I know work really hard, and often more hours than people with standard 8-5 business jobs. It can also be an emotionally demanding job (again, possibly worse in the South dealing with poverty/absentee parents/etc.)
