Ugh. When the next update for Elite drops, I'm for sure ducking out for a few weeks. The entire game just feels draining.

It's a little ironic to be complaining about having to grind, then planning on playing Elite.

I genuinely enjoy Elite, but, damn, talk about having to grind. That game is basically 100% grind!

Fair point.

I think the difference, to me at least, is Elite's grind is the easiest thing in the world to just ignore. You don't have to do anything. It's like, I should grind out materials and spent time with engineers, unlocking each one, perfecting and min/maxing my Chieftain... But I don't have to, and haven't outside of a few cases. My boat is fun as hell to fly and is perfectly capable of holding its own in a fight. Elite's grind is a much easier thing to set aside and completely dismiss, and even when you have to acknowledge it, like when saving up for a shiny new 'Conda or 'Vette, it still doesn't feel life draining. The only time it does, is if you decide you have to have that shiny new thing right now.

By contrast, Destiny now feels like a constant slog where I'm fighting for every increase in light level, corralled into activities I'd rather not do, or am bored of, simply for the right type of drops, which I then have to go farm additional stuff for because otherwise they're useless because I can't use them to infuse. As an addendum to my Year One list of things I miss: I miss doing whatever I wanted to make steady progress.

My intention was never to thread-jack, and I have, because I posted when I wasn't thinking terribly clearly and tired. So my bad, and I'll quit now. As a contribution to what this is all actually about... The lore is good stuff, what little of it I've taken time to read (which is another rant, I think I just can't be made happy with the Grimoire). It's absolutely like dipping into the Terminals from Halo and Marathon, in some cases, it's like dipping into an actual novel. This one though, and I say this having not experienced it myself, feels like it shouldn't even be text. It should be integrated into gameplay in some way.
